That sounds like an awful, Star Wars-like, theatrical experience.

It's a regular screening, weebs in Indonesia tend to be super unhinged and that's only the tip of the Indonesian Weeb Shaenanigans iceberg. Someone not very far from my seat brought their laptop into the venue, played Osu! without even using a headphone and only stopped when the venue light dimmed, everytime I remember about that evening I felt a physical pain.

Re: Shin Evangelion beats franchise record for the first day at the box office
Capping off the 2nd week with 4.83 billion yen, Saturday-Sunday numbers were 690 million yen which is nice.
Next week should be quite eventful with the lockdown being lifted in metropolitan area and of course, the stage greeting event on the 28th (the venue will be on Shinjuku Wald 9, but the event will be broadcasted to other 334 theaters nationwide).

It reached 3.0's lifetime gross in two weeks, damn. It made 190 million yen last Monday so 130 million on the first day of its third week is a strong hold.

Damn, that put things into perspective, Shin is one hell of a block-buster!

Seriously, that is the most fananked theory I've ever heard, more than Mari being Marty McFly travelling through time to keep her parents (Asushin) together. -- Jäeger

I don't know much about how theaters works, even less in Japan, but isn't that a little early, especially seeing how much of a blockbuster it is?

My guess is something else is opening on Friday that needs those screens, especially the imax ones.

Yeah, this opens on Friday. I also remember there was a plan to release The Fellowship of the Ring IMAX remaster in Japan on March, but it was delayed indefinitely when Shin Eva's new release date got announced.

I guess that due to the current circumstances, every movies that were delayed due to the state of emergency are now in competition against each others and the movies scheduled to release now.

Yeah, I also saw they are starting to offering extra goods like an exclusive card or whatever from Monday.
I think they expect viewers to decrease sensibly from next week.

Re: Shin Evangelion beats franchise record for the first day at the box office
6-6.5 billion yen as the endgame number seems to be more likely than 7 billion at this point, although I'd be pleasantly surprised if it did reach the latter. The cast greeting event on Sunday should give this film one last ̶k̶i̶s̶s̶ meaningful weekend push, they've been promoting it as the last stage event ever for Eva too.

With 5.3 billion, it beat 3.0's record now.

By all accounts, the better film won.
Don't be.
Re: Shin Evangelion beats franchise record for the first day at the box office
I'm gonna reserve my judgment after I manage to see Shin.
