ive heard people complain that without Shinji, evangelion is pointless or wont work, bullshit, Misato, mari, Asuka, ritsuko & gendo during the time skip would be more than enough to make up for him.

Considering a lot of the haters of the original series say the biggest issue the original series had was Shinji, an OVA or two season series without him would be exactly what they wanted.

Anyways, I don't really care either way. All I ask is that Final give Shinji a modestly happy ending, or y'know, at least one where he doesn't spend the rest of his life in a padded cell.

If its a happy ending, then maybe I'll be interested in this theoretical OVA/Spinoff series.

But if Final isn't a happy ending? I'm probably going to have to go on a long sabbatical from all things Eva before I'll be interested.

As much as I love Evangelion, I hope that Final is just that: final.

Mainly because Anno is too awesome to be stuck doing Evangelion. I'd rather see him do something different.

I was fine with having nothing more than the original series. I certainly don't need more Eva after ENT is finished.

I don't see the point, honestly. Eva's about Shinji and his rocky journey to maturity; a series about the timeship has nothing to add to that, so it would be pretty pointless. I wouldn't mind it, of course, but it would be nothing more than an indulgence. As such I can't see Anno wasting his time with it.

Well, from what little we saw of the characters of WILLE, there was probably a lot of very interesting character interaction during the time skip.
Just to see how Misato got colder to what we saw in Q, or Asuka waking up to discover that everything got turned on its head and learned to trust Mari, and the latter getting over her "lone wolf" tendencies would be very interesting and worthy that Anno taking time to explore it.

That would be a refreshing change from the story of "lonely boy with self-esteem issues learn to love himself and open his heart (and ears!) to others". Not that Shinji's story isn't interesting mind you.

Yes, but it wouldn't be Eva. It would be a story told using Eva's props, but it wouldn't be Eva. Hence, no interest from Anno.
