It's kind old news but I think that it's not been posted yet, at least searching the museum's name didn't give me any result, anyway from 14 July to 17 September the Bizen Japanese Sword Museum hosts the "Evangelion & Japanese Swords Exhibit". The replicas of the Spear and some of the Anima weapons seem really well done.

So let’s make a wish.

Absolutely and just the amount of time and the level of skill required to make it. Crazy, crazy stuff...

"Crazy" is a good word for that exhibit. The blades look fine, but everything else . . . man. It's painful to see talent so painfully married to commercialized drek.

The LoL's okay though. I guess it'd have to be one of the imitations, but it's still neat.

Yeah, it looks amazingly cheap, the single parts are fine or at least passable, but it's like they took cardboards of the drawings and superimposed them on the rest of the poster, even a child could have done a better job.

Well, the museum found a good way to have some advertising which can reach youngsters who aren't exactly found of their ancestor's swords, unless they're hold by girls cosplaying anime characters, it's probably a win-win for both the museum and Khara.
Anyway the Ayanami cosplayer holding that sword bigger than her is really a funny sight.

Hmm, 1500 yen for a folder or whatever of Rei or Asuka holding a tanto...

Doesn't look like the nodachi is that heavy either. Cool that they made the progressive katana from way back when.

The Evangelion and Japanese Swords exhibit was also accompanied by the Evangelion Kaiyodo Figure World, which was amazing and I enjoyed it a whole bunch more - But I'll post those pics in the figurine thread.

The Spear of Longinus looks less like it has a hamon and more like it was pattern-welded, Viking-style, rather than Japanese-style. The Japanese used pattern welding themselves but didn't bring out the patterns quite as much as the Vikings did - especially since the Vikings could afford to use an acid wash to bring out the different colors from the different grades of steel.

The wiki article has some excellent pictures.

The exhibit looks like it will stick around. Lower down the page there is concept art from Yamashita for a pointy metal thing that (from what I understand) will be brought into the physical world and displayed November 2014.

The thing that always bugs me about this exhibit is the fact that so many of the items are . . . well, kitschy. Asuka would never have a tanto with a full body cutout, for instance, and some of the designs are just plain odd. I think Kaworu probably made out the best there; he got a sword that's easy to identify with him but still looks like a functional weapon. Pity the others didn't get the same treatment.

And that Lance . . . I guess it's supposed to be one of the imitations? It just seems off in so many ways.

The Anima stuff was pretty cool, though, if only because some of that crazy shit is actually in Anima.

The "Rei" katana is pretty swag too in my opinion :

And now that I think about it, Shinji is the only one who doesn't get to have a blade themed on him, why he can never have the good stuff? :shinji_boohoo:

Right now maybe keeping Shinji away from weapons with a reputation for ritual suicide might be a good idea.

Yeah, better keep him away from the Tantos! But still a nice katana that would have been nice!

At least there is the Magorox Sword, which is "his" sword in ANIMA. Slightly off topic, but it's me, or the ANIMA adaptation is becoming more and more popular?
