So you know that brother I have that is a total asshole? my dog is acting really scared around him, like she is actively avoiding him and would rather stay outside than be near him and shivering a bit when he is there and I have known my dog long enough to know she is very much not scared of anything usually.
If he did anything to her I swear to god I will gut him myself, consequences be dammed he deserves it.

If this is about Bloomberg potentially running as an independent, I can't really see what's so bad about him compared to the alternatives. Choosing between the current candidates is like choosing which method of execution you'd prefer.

I think he's talking about politics in the Philippines, chief.
For my post-3I fic, go here.

People's deaths are to be mourned. The ability to save people should be celebrated. Life itself should be exalted. -- Volken Macmani, Tatakau Shisho: The Book of Bantorra
I hate myself. But maybe I can learn to love myself. Maybe it's okay for me to be here! That's right! I'm me, nothing more, nothing less! I'm me. I want to be me! I want to be here! And it's okay for me to be here! -- Shinji Ikari, Neon Genesis Evangelion
Yes, I know. You thought it would be something about Asuka. You're such idiots.

Re: FML general thread [8]
SPOILER: Show
Sorry if I have to explain, and if it's a bit political; the local Philippine elections now have five contenders for the presidency. However, none of them really seem to be the best choice, with at least one with Hugo Chavez tendencies combined with Bloomberg's utter hatred for cigarettes and petty criminals; another liar who is being investigated for plunder; a woman candidate who's determined to run despite having survived cancer and a VP running-mate who was a son of a dictator; the administration type who is probably the 2nd most hated Filipino, after President Aquino himself, on Facebook; and an adopted daughter of an action film star who's a political greenhorn but is supported mostly by the left.
The current consensus in my country is leaning towards the Chavez/Bloomberg/Pied Piper messiah, whom they think he'll part the Red Sea and feed live locusts to drug lords within six months. The fandumb agitprop surrounding this martinet on Facebook and Disqus is overwhelming I had to filter out much of the political garbage.
Unfortunately, some of my clients, acquaintances and even friends are actually rooting for this sonofabitch.

As someone who's survived cancer (25 years ago, not just temporary remission) I am puzzled at why this is relevant.

Re: FML general thread [8]
I discovered today that my backup 1TB drive failed sometime in the last 10 days. I discovered this when I tried to perform my regular backup. I have another older 500GB drive that I've been saving just in case of an emergency like this. I plugged it in... to discover that lo, this drive had failed as well. Now I have a laptop with my entire life on it and no functioning backups, and it's going to be another 24 hours until my new drive gets here. The silver lining is that it's a USB 3.0 2TB drive that I managed to get my hands on for much cheaper than I'd expected (40% off, come to daddy) but I'm still bothered that I had to spend money that I didn't want to spend on a hard drive that I didn't want to buy. Since I'm a full-time student, I can only work a part-time job two days a week. This is essentially what I earn in a week down the drain, which pisses me off since I always try to save at least half of my paychecks.
Oh, and all of my digital anime was on that backup drive in a folder separate from my backups, so I lost 100+ gigs of anime to boot. I'm hoping the drive isn't totally dead and that I can take it in to where I normally get my stuff fixed and maybe recover some portion of my old data.
Shit.

Re: FML general thread [8]
From what I understand you should be able to recover the data as long as the platters themselves aren't broken.
[Redacted]
Re: FML general thread [8]
Data recovery is possible, but never 100% assured (since the drive could be bricked to the point the recovery is impossible) But it all depends on what the failure was and what sorta shape the platters and data are in. I have no idea what the cost would be however.
It's really sucks to have a drive failure like that. Seen it happen to many friends, which is what got me to have my backups on multiple media so I have some redundancy, which I do highly suggest anyone to do. Though mine's more very important data which is in tons of small files which is easier to have multiple backups of. Large collections of video and the like is a bit more difficult to do.

Re: FML general thread [8]
That's a major bummer.
I had a secondary HDD fail out of the blue in 2009. Was able to save my Steam library, including some Half-Life mods that probably can't be found on the net any more, but not any of the anime on it.

Re: FML general thread [8]
I'm feeling rather disillusioned at the moment, at least in regards towards YouTube, for a couple of reasons.
The first is that a part-time channel I worked on, Apollo Chungus, has been taken down. I shouldn't really be surprised at that; it was a channel where I uploaded obscure-ish songs (such as the Shiro's Songbook series, the Evangelion PianoForté album and the incredibly rare Last of the Summer Wine soundtrack), and King Records have gone on a bit of a take-down rampage towards anyone uploading NGE music. Nevertheless, it's depressing to see a year and a half's worth of music uploading vanish without a trace. I could start over, and simply not upload anything to do with NGE, but not now.
The other reason is a case of professional jealousy towards some of the insanely successful people on YouTube. I've spent nearly about four or five years making YouTube videos, tried to do my best to make honest and interesting videos, and I only have 900-ish subscribers to show for it. Meanwhile, there are videos titled in ALL CAPS THAT SUPPOSEDLY MAKE IT SOUND EVEN MORE TRUE BUT END UP MAKING THE CREATOR SOUND LIKE A GUMBY FROM MONTY PYTHON, and contain people screaming madly at whatever half-broken game Steam has shat out this milli-second, getting millions of views and making a living from it.
I'm not going to deny it - I do kind of hate these people for getting far more recognition with far less time spent figuring out what they're doing with these videos, I am bitter at how I seem to go unnoticed in the grand scheme of things (not just YT, but musically, and in writing), and I get uneasy at the ever-recurring idea that I'm only obscure because I'm just not good at what I do. After all, being around for years doesn't necessarily equal the highest of quality.
I honestly considered just giving up YT this morning (wouldn't make much difference from usual; I haven't done a video on my main channel since July thanks to college) and doing something else, but I'll need to have a think about it. And in case you're wondering, I did get into doing creative stuff on the internet because I wanted to do it, but that can only take me so far before I start wondering if I could be doing something more worthwhile with myself. I just want some reassurance that I'm doing the right thing, and being recognized would go quite a ways towards doing that.
Yeah, this is really petty as far as this thread can be concerned, but I needed to rant for a bit. Now that it's out there, I might be able to get on with other things until I figure out a plan of action. Thanks, and have a good one.

Re: FML general thread [8]
I did a really stupid thing.
There is this far right-wing populist politician in Austria, that talks bullshit and spreads fear wherever he is. His party has been convicted of hate speech many times, and many of the politicians in the party have been active in far-right communities. Think Trump mixed with a more fascist edge.
So I read this article about him, and I couldn't bear it, I had a bad day. And then I wrote a comment saying that "somebody should kill or at least rape him."
Now, this comment has been removed, but I kind of fear that this might result in backlash against me, since somebody could sue me over it.
I hope that doesn't happen.

There are several political bloggers out there who often end a rant with "where's the multi-person gallows?" or "rope, tree, politician, some assembly required" and have been doing so for years without obvious ill effects.

You reap what you sow I guess, I doubt you'll get into trouble over such a trivial affair. To be fair it's not wise to get so incensed about things on the internet, potentially shooting yourself in the foot, a pointless exercise.

I wish you should have watched The Dark Knight Returns -- Bane the demagogue basically presents himself as a "liberator", supposedly to remove the "corrupt" and "free the oppressed", but he otherwise has more sinister plans.
