It seems "routine service updates" overnight have somehow killed both my internet and cable service, and the tech support guy will be dropping by "sometime today". Wheeeee....

Storms killed the internet for the post office here. Since it's officially the arse-end of nowhere, it'll be five days before they "get an engineer out" and I can post some stuff.

Re: FML general thread [8]
Oh, it gets better. After a nearly entirely wasted day it turns out the reason for all this was that someone else in my apartment complex broke into the switchbox and swapped the cable pickups. Stupid lazy bastards can't even bother to pick up a cheap splitter box if they're going to steal my cable?

Re: FML general thread [8]
I feel more and more like people just ignore me unless I make a lot of noise, am I really that forgettable? Would people even notice if I wasn't there any-more?
Some people say they would but I dont totally trust that since they seem to only care when I'm being nice to THEM.
Would you even know I used to write for years? It wasn't very good I'll admit, and I dont know if I improved because nobody ever reads my work, this is the only forum in which people read when I post something, what about me is so forgettable?
And honestly It's getting worse, more and more people just seem to pass by my posts or me irl and just act like I dont exist.

Honestly I have no idea. You're easily one of the most memorable people on this site.

I can't speak for everyone, but I'm not ignoring you. It's just that we have nothing in common. In fact, this is the first time I'm directly speaking to you. That being said, I sometimes feel the same way when I am on the forum. I don't what to say that would make you feel any better though.

I often feel the same way myself. I usually chime in when its something I want to comment on or discuss, but usually stay pretty quiet. Maybe it's the same for many others?
You are pretty memorable to me though.

I seem to remember seeing this carton about someone who didn't value themself and tried to get others to value them instead. What was it called, now?... it was quite good!

Note to the idiot who wrote the text I had to proofread and annotate with XML today: Try thinking ahead a little before writing down your thoughts, and look back at what you wrote earlier when writing, so you don't repeat yourself every three lines again and again and AGAIN and make the whole chapter excessively tedious to work with. 6 hours to work myself through 20 pages of 6 pt text.

Mild inconvenience more than a FML, but whatever... Lost a few days to the common cold, and, now that I'm feeling better, I'm losing another day reeling from the side effects of Nyquil and cough drops. Feels like my head is floating, barely connected to my body. It's weird, man, and I don't like it.

If you're getting light-headed from Nyquil you are definitely taking too much. Or alternatively... not enough for a proper Purple Drank.

My Grandpa passed away this morning. I know I don't post here much, but I'm in shock, he was the only grandpa I had. My dad's parents passed away before I was born. My mom told me on Wednesday grandpa was dying, but I never expected it to happen so fast. RIP Grandpa.

Re: FML general thread [8]
Being a manager in the food industry is frustrating sometimes. My general manager is being pressured by the district manager, area manager, and so on, to cut costs wherever possible by reducing labor, reducing waste, etc. Shifts are being run on the bare minimum of staff, extra paperwork has to be done to keep better track of inventory and store maintenance. , and (for the closers) we're all expected to finish up and clock out earlier. On a Monday, having three people to close is fine. Mondays are nice. Mondays are slow. Fridays, however... Fridays are not the same thing. Fridays we should have four closers. Anyways, in tandem with all these changes, the regular crew have all been cut down to part time. This has been a major blow to everybody's morale in the store, especially to those who have to pay rent and other living expenses.
While tonight wasn't a particularly busy night, nobody was really having a good day. I was catching a cold, and already frustrated with having work with the demands from the corporate higher ups. Another of my three closers was also feeling sick (we both blame it on the freezing cold classrooms at the college we attend contrasted by the 80 degree weather outside), and he, along with the third guy, was frustrated that his hours were getting cut.
To try and brush past the mundane part of the miserable night, the highlight of which being that I'm probably going to get a customer complaint because I had to explain to someone why we can't walk an order to the bar next door (we would if we had the extra hand or could spare the time, but we can't because labor cost again, yay), I'll speed up toward the end of the night. The close went at an okay pace, but again, everybody was simply frustrated with how the job has been lately. When we were just finishing up the last minute tasks, both of my closers decided that everything was good enough, and began getting changed into their regular clothes, even though there was still plenty to clean still. Meanwhile, I'm frantically trying finish up my final walk through so I could then submit my final paperwork. Again, it was a frustrating day for all of us. I called them out, trying to explain that we're not done until we've completely cleaned everything and that if they didn't know what was left to be done to come and ask me. They started to argue. I threatened to write them up. They said they didn't care. And so I told them to just clock out and leave.
This really sucks because they're good friends of mine and otherwise really great to work with (and one of them was my ride home). This only happened because of how things have been changing at work, and if we had just one other person that night, even if only until the end of business hours, things would have been a lot better. I spent another half hour almost finishing up was left on my own (against company policy, so I'll probably get chewed out), and took the bus home (not before grabbing a bottle of cheap Bacardi
). Now tomorrow I have some write-ups to file, and if I can't get any additional hands to come in, I'll have another night being sick and only having three of us to do everything. We got slammed last Saturday, and so that doesn't seem very promising for this one either.
But I had a date the other night, so whatevs. I'ma sleep now, and hopefully I can approach things a bit more optimistically again tomorrow.
