Shit, now I've got pink eye.
EDIT: Was coughing so much I ruptered a blood vessel and had a nosebleed, bled all over my face and down my neck, luckily it wasn't too bad for the bed, but some blood went down my throat so I was coughing it back up for a bit.

This morning I went to arrange an appointment with an optician, and when checking the appointment cards in my wallet, realized that I'd missed a dental appointment two weeks ago, that somehow I'd not put into one or other on-line calendar. So now I'll have to pay for that, and book another one.

I did everything right. I drank my vitamin C excercised, ate right, avoided other people who were sick, and I still caught the cold.
Just once I'd like one year where I didn't catch the common the cold.
Splitting headache, drippy nose, sore throat, and every little noise is like a shell going off.

I am NOT here in this hole just to wear a fake smile, wash and clean up their mess. I bet butlers are better treated and paid.

Depression's really been kicking my ass lately. My sleep schedule is all screwed up; I can't fall asleep and I don't have the energy to wake up when my alarm goes off without falling back asleep.
The goods news is that I'm finally making progress towards seeing a therapist to help me get my shit together.

Re: FML general thread [8]
I let my brother play XCOM 2 on my machine and when I switched back over to my account to play under my name it kept his save files. My saves should still be in my cloud but now I'm in a precarious position where the slightest misstep could cause his saves to get uploaded to my cloud and permanently erase mine (assuming that hasn't happened already). I've left the game running on the one machine while I download and install the game on another, hoping my current cloud saves will be downloaded to it in the process. In the meantime (because the download will take hours), I'm searching around trying to find out if there's any easier way to manually download or otherwise guarantee that I can get my saves back.
EDIT: I rescued my saves.

Re: FML general thread [8]
My capstone team and I added each other on Facebook as our group communication platform. As a result, I see status updates of theirs. I've tried very purposefully to avoid looking at them but sometimes you catch a glance before you even realize what you're looking at, and as a result I saw a post revealing one of my teammates (and one I'm closer to than most of the others, too) to have a certain ideological bent that's about as diametrically opposed as possible from my own and I keep biting my proverbial tongue trying not to contest the meme he posted.

Yeah, I can totally relate. I've been a real mess lately, myself. If you're in the northern hemisphere too, it might be the season taking its toll. Reminds me that I've had a sun lamp in the closet this whole time...

I still can't say it. I just don't want those two words together existing in any post with my name on it.
I heard he got caught through a fake website. U.S. Marshals came to his door and evicted him from his house to protect his child. The question now is whether he ever actually did anything -- whether he's an actual predator or just looked at pictures. I wasn't exactly in the right state of mind to absorb everything I was told about the situation, but what I gather is, he admitted that it's been a life-long addiction, and the supposition is that it goes back to how he was treated by his father growing up.
My family is the caring, understanding type, and I'm glad for that all the time, but especially at times like this. It was my father, my mother, and I in that room when I was told this, and I was happy that we were all on his side in response to this news -- hoping for healing, that he takes well to therapy, etc. We went through something like this before, when we discovered my mother's alcoholism -- not that that's like even close to the same scale as this, of course.
Why couldn't it have just been alcoholism?

Well, that's certainly something to swallow... Fortunately you seem to have strong family bonds. So I wish you the best, don't let it come too close to you.

Re: FML general thread [8]
Every time I tell myself that I hate myself, I get this cold, sinking feeling in my chest, and that's how I know it's true. Sometimes I get a big, stupid grin on my face, and that's how I know I'm losing it. I'm tired of everything, and I feel like I'm constantly working just so I can get a break. I don't even know what I'm working toward these days. Sometimes I wish I worked less so I'd have time to go out more, but then I realize I have no friends and no reason to go out in the first place. I'm just like my father, and I'm going to be alone just like him as well. Glad to see what I get to look forward to over the next thirty years. I've been advised by several people to get help, but if I'm just gonna get put on prescriptions I don't see the point. I've experienced first hand the terrible things anti-depressants can do to people, and I never want to become that. I keep telling myself things are going to get better someday, but as more time goes by, I feel myself losing sight of what makes me happy. I simply don't know anymore.
Re: FML general thread [8]
Sachi: As someone who's been where you are, let me say this: it's not an all or nothing thing. The wrong antidepressants are terrible. The sideways antidepressants are a waste of money. the good antidepressants actually make things better. There are a lot of options out there, so you have to try a few to get the right balance (assuming a doctor thinks they're medically indicated to begin with). Finding a therapist you trust is the first and most important step. See if you can find one at the school, and if you can't see what you can manage via health insurance. Because you absolutely should talk to someone about this, and it's possible medication might help.
Hang in there, and good luck!

Wow, this took a turn for the serious.
Monk, you just gotta hope this was a look don't touch sort of thing, as at least if the guy was trying to resist it there's hope for leniency.
Sachi... if you want things to change you gotta change the situation or yourself. What do you really have to lose by seeking possible help?

Some dum-dum came onto my campus with a gun a few days ago, a couple buildings down from where I live. Nobody got shot (a guy did get pistol-whipped, but he let the dum-dum into the building in the first place so my sympathy for him is low) but we did go into lockdown for two hours.
School gives a handful of free therapy sessions students during the semester and probably saw a bit of a spike in kids taking them up on it who probably got super wigged out by the whole thing, but I wound up not going. I just got progressively more irritated throughout the day until I took a nap and felt better about the whole thing.
I am still distinctly not shot, which is pretty nice.

Re: FML general thread [8]
Managed to cut two of my fingers on a piece of glass last week, and had to phone a family member to help me wrap up one of my fingers because it bled like hell (not an artery, managed to slice off some flesh... ). Then the next evening I had to remove the bandage using warm water because it was soaked in dried blood and the finger was hurting. With a new bandage it seems to be healing properly now.
Then two days ago I cut my other hand on a piece of paper.
Also got a cold for the second time in two months, with a lot of sneezing that is a pain in the ass because it hurts my chest that was just starting to get fully healed after my earlier bad flu. The problem is that people at work who get sick don't stay at home, but instead come to infect everyone by working half days while they are sick. Arses.

Decided to eat dinner alone, I want the quiet.
Didn't like being at the dinner table and hearing shit about this guy is corrupt this and that, and obnoxious crap that I have no place for, I could flip my lid and yell at them if they have balls to take a gun and shoot him.

Between Tuesday and Wednesday, the CEO and VP of the company I work for are going to be visiting my store. I'm at a mix of "Hey, it'll be cool getting to meet the man that so many talk highly of." and "Oh my god... I'm going to be under constant scrutiny by the person in the highest position in the company."
I guess I should not be surprised after the letter he sent us and the other stores in our district. Being the highest performing store in the best district in the company since 3rd quarter last year, I bet he wants to see why we are so good over so many others. To say I'm not nervous as hell, I would be down right lying.
