I have a stinking cold today, so I will be unable to go to my son's concert in the Wigmore Hall this evening.

Re: FML general thread [8]
Yesterday a customer came up to me and pulled me over to an aisle where someone had dropped a cloth shopping bag on the floor. She says, "that bomb can kill you" in a nasty tone of voice and stalks away.
Thanks for that, asshole. Working retail is demeaning enough without jerks like you telling me I deserve to get killed by a bomb.

Someday I hope that we'll be reunited if that is what's destined to be. Perhaps we'll discover that elusive bible. And then we will finally be free!

Aren't bomb threats serious business these days? Making a false claim/threat like that can get people banned from entire shopping streets in some countries, plus of course have a 'nice' chat with the cops.

Well, I had to breakup with my boyfriend after finding out he's gay.

"Had to"? If he felt able to be your boyfriend, perhaps it wasn't as simple as that for him.

Re: FML general thread [8]
Japan offices are closed for Golden Week, meaning I can't send any more emails or questions about the summer program that I'm doing. Normally this wouldn't be a problem since I don't even leave for Japan until the end of the month, but I have to make the choice of what I'm leaving behind in Massachusetts and not bringing back with me to California within the next three days. Not everything I have in college needs to come home with me, but some things may need to go to Japan. At this point I'm considering just buying some cheap stuff that I need when I'm there and figuring out what to do with it at the end of the trip.
The point is that I have to figure all this stuff out without the help of the university that I'm going to.

My old laptop finally kicked the bucket.
Good News: I had most everything important backed up.
Bad news: I started writing some more of my Fic, and other stories and now I have to rewrite them all from scratch.

Re: FML general thread [8]
I think my year old Wifi adapter is on its way out. Currently hooked to the range extender down the hall via Ethernet, which cuts my speed by 2/3rds (Since its an extender for 2.4 GHz, not for 5 GHz) but at the very least its stable and not kicking me off the network every hour or so (which is very annoying while gaming) Really don't want to have to spend for another, but at least I have my backup connection to get by with for now.
If I ran the cable all the way to the router it probably would be back up to full speed, but I don't exactly want a cat 6 cable running the entire length of the house. Luckily I have it. It was nice of the installer of our new VoIP phones at work to have made me and my boss a cable out of the excess that he had from do our store, otherwise I'd be in a bit of a pickle right now.

If the problem isn't a failed hard disk, you can remove it from the broken laptop and hook it up to another computer, either via an adapter for the internal connectors or by putting it in an external enclosure.

The thing WILL NOT turn on, no matter what I do. I replaced the battery with one I know for a fact is still good, the screen isn't cracked. I was just watching a movie on it, and it just gave up the ghost.
Does that mean it's a failed hard drive or something else?+

If the machine won't even turn on, it's a problem with the power. If it turns on but doesn't do anything, it could be a bad hard drive, bad memory, bad GPU... take it in somewhere and get it looked at.

Re: FML general thread [8]
Tomorrow's the national elections, so... I'm not sure this time if I could be able to keep up being online in the next six months. I don't know because the most popular presidential candidate in my country happens to be the most megalomaniacal man I ever seen, and people have really brought into the propaganda.
He's sure to win, and more than that, because he is a doer, and he'll do it with bullets and shock. He would be no more different from Idi Amin.
Personally, I'm really worried. The betrayal was just starting because anyone not following this madman would be seen as disloyal or approaching treason, like "join or die". My country has been divided into many factions, but the largest of these are also the most vicious in language and ill-defined logic. They all have bloodlust, excited to see not just petty criminals killed but also, just possibly, anyone who criticizes the impending leadership.
If he is elected, expect me to be a lot more careful with what I say, online or IRL. Because I'm sure he'll follow it up with a security apparatus not seen in 30 years. It's going to be not just a police state but also possibly a mob state, a state where justice would be handed out by loyalists without due process, no courts, nothing. And... God, I know. God helps those who help themselves.
Pray that I don't need to dig up my father's assault rifle a year from now.
To get the gist of what this bastard really is, watch:

I honestly didn't think he would get this close to winning, I guess everyone vastly underestimated the situation by making it into a joke and a funny meme rather than attempting to fully comprehend the potential ramifications.
Meanwhile, I'm finding it difficult to study but somehow just wrote a seven-paragraph essay of several of my bad memories and why I'm a terrible person.

Just looked him up, think it's silly of people over here are trying to compare Trump to him, but whatever gets them to push their propaganda further.

If you're wondering where I've been for the past week I caught a bad case of the FU stomach flu. Apparently (a according to the internet) a chef at one of the places I sometimes eat at, didn't wash his hands before returning to work.
I won't go into details about the symptoms, but I was so sick I had to sleep next to the bathroom.
When I'm back to 100% I'm gonna find whoever did this to me and give him a piece of my mind.
