The mangaka, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, is also involved with Studio Khara's Rebuild of Evangelion movies (he most notably assumed the role of animation director for RoE 1.0), so every once in a while he takes time off to work on RoE.
...And since RoE 3.0 is slated for this year...well, you can deduce the rest.

Just a headsup: for people who want to preorder the premium limited edition of Manga Volume 13, you can do that on CDJapan.

Sadamoto was credited as an animation supervisor for 1.0, he wasn't an animation director. He also did some key animation for 1.0. For 1.0 the Chief AD was Shunji Suzuki. There were 4 other animation directors for 1.0: Hidenori Matsubara, Kazuchika Kise, Atsushi Okuda and Yuji Moriyama.
However for 2.0 he was credited with assistant animation direction along with Sachiko Okumura and Atsushi Nishigori. There was no Chief AD credit for 2.0 as far as I know, merely animation directors: Hidenori Matsubara, Shunji Suzuki, Takeshi Honda (mechanical presumably) and Atsushi Okuda.

Vol 13 will have SIMULTANEOUS Japanese and English release! Per Viz Media, anyway.

Does Carl have anything to say on this?

So I finally read up to chapter 91 (now that it's available in English) and all I've got to say is:
1. Longer haired Yui is fucking lovely.
2. I'm dreading what her important message to Shinji is. After making Gendo tell Shinji he's always been jealous of him, I'm wondering what Sadamoto will turn Yui into. Though in her case I might just welcome it, since she had such little screentime in the TV series while still managing to be so very hauntingly alluring.

Just read ch 88/89 to 90 online. Very nice. I should read the prior chapters as well sometime, at least the ones picking up where the latest English volume left off. I think I've only read the physical copy of vol 12 in English. Looking forward to see what happens next.

If anyone is interested, you can now preorder volume 13 on both Rightstuf and Amazon.
I also have a question while I'm posting. Since there will be simultanious release plus the prospect that the series may be completed with this volume, I am wondering if it is a good idea to put in a similar spoiler policy for this thread that will be put into place when 3.0 is released? As for how long it would be (and this is only an example), it could be from, let's say, Halloween until the end of the year. I'm asking becuase some people will be able to get their copy the day of release from their favorite bookstore or comic shop while others might have to wait up to a couple of weeks to have their copy shipped to them. And unlike 3.0, it doesn't have to be in place for too long. Sorry for any trouble if it happens to be too early to think about these things.

Here's my attempt at it:
連載開始からまる16年が経ちましたが、まずは今の率直な感想をお聞かせください。
Q1: It's been sixteen years since the manga first serialized. To begin with, please tell us how you honestly feel now.
A1: Sixteen years... that's a long time. To be honest, even I am suprised I'm still doing it. I am truly sorry [that it's taken so long].
Q2: What is it actually like, converting the anime into the manga?
A2: [It would seem that,] since [you are adapting from] an original work, it would take a smaller effort than [writing] an original work, but that's not the case... I'm always worried by the distance between the anime and the adaptation. If you meddle with things too much, it ends up not being Eva.
Q3: As the serialization continues, has there been any change in your stance towards or way of thinking about Eva as a work?
A3: My surrounding environment and my treatment [of things?] has changed, but my stance in regard to my work has probably not changed. Only, the response of the readers has become far more visible than it used to be, so I have started to think about the impact that the work has.
Q4: What did you feel when your own child turned fourteen - the same age as Shinji and his peers?
A4: I thought, "my house is so peaceful!" (laughing). Besides that, as I looked on my 14-year-old son, I thought how realistic it was that Shinji was unable to simply pilot a robot super-weapon made to protect the world.
Q5: You have taken long breaks a few times. With what kind of attitude do you begin [again] when you "reboot"?
A5: I read the manga from the beginning again, and then its like I gradually become focused. But I always get anxious about whether or not I'll really be able to draw the storyboards [each time I return]. It's serious (laughing).
