If anything, this just confirms that Miyazaki is fucking awesome. Looks like Shinji at the end of 3.0 was a lot like Anno, maybe Miyazaki's words will lead to a happier end to 3.0+1.0.
Is the 3.0 spoiler policy gone?.... Cool, then I'm nominating myself as EvaGeeks 1# Sakura Suzuhara fan/nerd.

I mean, predictability is the central attraction and the narrative hook that we've all come to expect from the Evangelion franchise. How come Anno can't realize this? Twice? - FreakyFilmFan4ever

That described version of Eva sounds so unbelievably awesome that I'm almost sad it isn't what we got to see. That bit with the children and the Evas is delectably creepy; I'm sure I'd get jitters if I watched that on a screen.

Also, there would be no entry plugs, but the children would be implanted directly in the wombs of the Evangelions and surgically removed afterwards. If they are not removed quickly enough they are taken in by the Eva and cease to exist as a human being. Elements of this are preserved in the new films.

So back in 1996-97 they were hoping to do a whole new stand-alone set after EOE? Cool.

Would not be surprised to see some of those scrapped ideas appear in Final. Whenever it gets released.

That sounds like what a post-EoE story could be if Third Impact fucked good the planet, much of the people didn't came back from the LCL sea and if Kaworu, Rei and Yui trolled everyone and the Angels could still come back.

Talk about a way to make the franchise even bleaker! The elements that supposedly were kept in the new films could be the implication that Mark.09 tends to absorb its pilot if it stays too long inside it (Mari did say to Rei Q to get out "before turning/being absorbed in the ADAM's Vessel" after all), and maybe the possibility of a big "Lilin City" like robersora said, after all with the Wunder and its Eva stranded in the seas and probably often away on mission, there must be something to protect that city (and its probable WILLE base and factories) from SEELE and neo-NERV if they send NS or MP-Evas against it! A giant AT-Field might do it. Maybe it has some extra Evas to reinforce the defense?

Also Anno/Miyazaki is the best bromance ever! :D

More than a sequel it sounds like a concentrated version of the original Eva story, with all of the symbols and thematic elements of the setting taken to the extreme, like the Utena movie.

I'm really glad that didn't get made, honestly. Given the way EoE ended it really would have robbed the whole story of much of its meaning.

Yep, but honestly it didn't seem that far-fetched, how else is mankind supposed to survive during 14 years against neo-NERV? (unless for some reason Gendo decided to let WILLE do their business without bothering them much, which isn't that impossible)

Every time Numbers posts, I get a boner of anticipation for the juicy information he usually brings us and this was no exception.

View Original Post1731298478 wrote:

- Although they are presented in the form of interviews, according to Anno, the books Schizo and Parano are 90% written by him, including things said by the interviewers (!)

Gonna have to take a look at these again.

- There were still plans to do the promised all-new Eva film during the making of Death and Rebirth. It was planned to have Death and Rebirth release in the spring and the all-new film release in the summer. However, Rebirth ran over schedule, so they were forced to release it separately in the summer instead (as EoE). Because of this, and Tsurumaki's reluctance to direct it, the all-new film was shelved indefinitely.

- Anno had written the plot of this film. He says it closely resembled Attack on Titan. It took place in a mostly destroyed world, with human beings confined to an area protected by an AT Field. A single bridge connects it to the rest of the world, and this is where the Angels attack. Angels would be seen eating humans, something they couldn't show in the TV series. Also, there would be no entry plugs, but the children would be implanted directly in the wombs of the Evangelions and surgically removed afterwards. If they are not removed quickly enough they are taken in by the Eva and cease to exist as a human being. Elements of this are preserved in the new films.

This is probably the juiciest nugget of all...Anno had been planning a follow up since 1996! I wonder if the script/outline that he wrote still exists and if it was indeed supposed to be a direct sequel to the events of EOE.

- Every time Anno works on Eva he breaks down. The original Eva nearly killed him. The new project (http://neweva.blog103.fc2.com/blog-entry-3369.html) is by no means a diversion but something he has to do leading up to the next Eva film. He broke down again after he finished Q, but being married helped him to bear it. He was told by Miyazaki to persist to the end, so he will do so.

Makes sense... seeing as how personal these films are to Anno's own psyche, he's basically laying bare a lot of his innermost and personal feelings for EVERYONE to see. That and the physical strain of producing these films must be taxing. The only consolation being that he gets to dictate when the project comes out so there won't be a time crunch.

- He continues to work on Eva but it is very difficult. When he looked at the past schedule he saw that the time between films is increasing, from two to three years, and joked that if this pattern holds up the next film could arrive four or maybe five or six years after Q!

Come on, Anno! If doing Rebuld is painful than just take the Band-Aid approach!
Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

And so we arrive at demagogy. - Hideaki Anno, 1996

Well, talk about missing Evas. If they use Unit 01 for Wunder, they might use 7, 10, 11, 12 and maybe the remnants of 00 for that task!

That's what I had in mind yes, except the remnants of 00 being used, since the only thing left of it was its feet.

User Jorno said something about how the events after EoE were none of our business-- although, I would still love to see if Anno truly had something in mind for us. The character development would be through the roof, I imagine.

It would also ruin Bagheera's fanfic, though.

First thing I thought about when I read that, the meaning of EOE and all of NGE would've been wrecked by it.

Anyways it is finally nice to get some type of news on 3.0+1.0, and I still believe it will be released next fall, and Anno was just throwing a super joke at us.

One thing I did want to point out is- "Also, there would be no entry plugs, but the children would be implanted directly in the wombs of the Evangelions and surgically removed afterwards. If they are not removed quickly enough they are taken in by the Eva and cease to exist as a human being."
This sounds like a element that was preserved from the I'll say "Proposal of Rebuild" from 1996. It very much sounds like what happens to Rei in the end of 2.0 and what we find out in 3.0.

What happened to Rei in 2.0 and 3.0 (as well as to Shinji) also happened to Shinji in NGE: he synchronized too much with his Eva and ended absorbed inside it, to be reconstituted some time later, except that it took one month in NGE and 14 years for NTE.

The parallel seems more fitting with Rei Q and Mark.09, in how Mari stated that if Rei Q stayed too long inside Mark.09, she would end absorbed inside it.

Seems like I forgot about this, and now that I think about it we will likely find out more when 3.0+1.0 comes out. Along with other elements that might have been preserved.

This is second big director that wanted to do something like SnK. It's not a revolutionary concept but I think Isayama lucked out.

Nice to see they didn't go completely to waste then. Also helps paint a possible picture of what to expect in Shin/Final (I'm not fucking calling it 3.0+1.0), i.e. Lilin City and all that as already heavily speculated by parts of the fandom.

Also, massive kudos to Numbers-kun like always.

Kentaro Takekuma (@kentaro666) denied on twitter that what Anno was reported to have said about S/P was true. He said Anno's comments had been misreported or misunderstood, and that Anno had emailed him to apologize for causing the misunderstanding. According to Takekuma, once an interview has been edited, it is common to allow the interviewee to review it and possibly make additions to what they had said. Anno's tendency is to add quite a bit to interviews afterwards, and this was the case with Schizo and Parano. In some cases he heavily revised what he had said before, and also revised the interviewer's questions to conform to it. In those cases, the interviewer would later have to confirm the revisions. It seems that Anno meant to refer to the degree or extent of the revisions he made rather than indicating he had invented questions for the interviewers.

There is a little bit more information on the film Anno mentions in this older post.
