Exactly that.

庵野監督は「(自分は)50代半ばで、宮さん(宮崎駿監督)が『もののけ姫』を作ったころ。働き盛りです。新しいものも進めている。働きますよ!」と力強く語った。

Sorta liberal translation, emphasis mine:

Director Anno said forcefully: "I'm in my mid-fifties, age when Hayao created Mononoke Hime. It is prime of life. A new work is also advancing. I'm working!"

"新しいもの" means literally "new thing".

So yeah, looks like Anno has already a non-eva project ongoing at some stage (probably pre-production). No one knows what exactly it is. Japanese fans immeaditly speculated it is the much talked about Nausicaa project but given other comments about Ghibli's current situation and Anno's current relationship to the studio I find that most unlikely.

As much as I would like to see a Nausicäa-sequel, I'd much more prefer it, if we finally saw something completely new from him.

I'll happily watch anything new that Anno is working on, whether it be a continuation of an old work or something new. I agree, though, that it would be nice to see a totally new work from the master.

For a second I thought it was a new Evangelion trailer and my heart popped out of my chest for a second. At least it's good to see Sagisu back at work.

It's gonna be one really weird show.

Reading Anno's IMDB is like reading the IMDB page of two entirely different people mixed together.
Like someone mixed Ridley Scott's filmography with Adam Wests filmography.

You've got dark serious sci fi fare like End Of Eva and Gunbuster. Compounded with lighthearted fare that isn't serious at all like Nadia, and the live action Cutie Honey.

The audience is going to have so much emotional whiplash. .

No idea about Cutie Honey, but Nadia is a far darker show than Gunbuster. Anno has the ability to mix in the hilarious with the horrifying - after all, the same episode where we see Shinji's "Acute Penguin Reaction Syndrome" to Pen-Pen also shows the brutal fight with Sachiel and the shock of seeing what's under Eva-01's helmet. Not two resumes, but the single resume of a man who has an unusual talent.

As of this point in time I have not watched Nadia all the way through (I'm working on that), and have never seen Gunbuster (I need to get on that). What I meant was although it was dark in points it was an overall lighthearted series.

As for the Live Action Cutie Honey he directed . . . it's a Big Budget Adam West Batman Episode. You don't know what the heck you are watching, but it is literally impossible to look away.

Just Look At This:

After seeing that, sometimes it is really hard to believe the same dude that directed This:

There has to be like two different people living in that skull of his. I reiterate, the audience is going to get so much emotional whiplash.

Happiness and despair are lying more closely together, than you think... After all, both are nothing more, than very deep, human emotions. And Anno is a master in tickling those out from his audience.

Not including The Wind Rises, being the first omission I spotted.

I'm sure there'll be a translation of it at some point, but the sooner the better. Some of us on the forums speak moonspeak, so hopefully we can get something quick.

It seems he comments a little on every work and I just want to see what he has to say about Eva and how he reacts. xD
And he might say something interesting about 3.0.

If he had said anything interesting about Eva it would already be summarized on the various blogs.
