I've been going back and reading old threads from when Q first came out. Very interesting and entertaining seeing the discussion from when that film first released and how it broke everyone's brains lol. Seeing people react to the time skip, the new designs, the Wunder, etc was priceless. I'm excited to check out the spoiler board for 3.0+1.0 once I finally get the opportunity to see it.

I was just reading a pre-Q speculation thread, and someone who ended up getting banned for being incendiary kept saying, to paraphrase, "they would NEVER abandon what we were shown in the 2.0 Next Time Preview, why on Earth would they? It was also funny seeing the initial reactions to Q spoilers being people thinking it was going to be some dumb schlock action movie and going all "IT'S EVERYTHING ABOUT 2.0 THAT WAS BAD EVA JUST JUMPED THE SHARK!!" Even the positive comments were resigning themselves to "I'll always have the originals, I'm just going to enjoy this movie as the dumb fun that it's meant to be".
Little did they know that it was actually the most grim and alienating piece of Eva media since EoE

I don't see much of a chance of this being the case in canon, but a recent video game spinoff went with the take that Misato still has him but absolutely no one aboard the Wunder knows, so once in a while random WILLE staff see a "strange creature" when he escapes the quarters of the fearsome captain - whom of course no one would ever suspect of being the type who likes animals.

Well, I doubt that he was really "at SEELE's side." If you ignore any possible fan theories, pretty much all of Kaworu's actions seem to have been done with no external prompting from either Gendo or the monoliths. Kaworu's actions are pretty much separate from everyone else's, he's got his own agenda that seems to be singularly obsessed with his idea of Shinji's happiness. I know that you were pretty much the creator of the "evil manipulative Kaworu" theory, but I already talked about how we need to keep fan theories separate from canonical discussion.

Going back to this, I want to note that my theory is not that Kaworu is an evil manipulator, just a manipulator, that his intentions toward Shinji are genuine in that he really want his happiness... except that he seems to have his own idea of what this happiness will be.
Note that unlike in NGE, in Q he never says that he's against SEELE's plans of Instrumentality, in fact he never even mention them to Shinji, and also, there's the fact that he was at neo-NERV HQ and not at WILLE's side, long after SEELE's plans were revealed. If he really was against them, then he should had join the Lilins (even if they fear him, 14 years is a long time to build trust), yet he didn't.

Plot twist: turns out that the hypothetical BM-01 and 02 that terrorized the crew were actually PenPen chilling around!
You're talking about the Evangelion Battlefields mobile game? I wonder if that game will be NTE's version of the NGE 2's game for PS2, in that explored most of the cast's characters and gave us lore that was absent in the main series. Like imagine that the events of the timeskip will actually be covered in that game!

Well, three things about that:

1. You say you weren't implying that Kaworu is evil, but "agreeing with SEELE's goals" kind of implies "evil," given that SEELE are the main villains of the series.
2. If Kaworu really did agree with SEELE's goals, why did he act so shocked when Fourth Impact started, and why did he sacrifice himself to try and stop it? It's entirely possible that defecting to WILLE just wasn't an option for Kaworu, or he felt like he needed to wait until Shinji's awakening to enact his plan. As for him never mentioning SEELE, I would bet that Kaworu just didn't feel like filling in Shinji on such a complicated organization was really important.
3. Like I said before, this whole thing is just a matter of fan theory. I don't feel like fan theories have much of a place in discussion of the movies themselves: we shouldn't use speculation to discuss Anno's intent unless we're almost certain about it.

I saw a detail somewhere that i just couldn't ignore/ couldn't help but want closure on, and before i knew it i had read all the stuff.

It's remarkably different from what has been suggested so far in this thread.
I really wonder where the reaction in the theaters comes from unless there's a whole lot of "it makes sense in context" involved
But as typical for any EVA work ppl are claiming exactly opposite things about what exactly happened and so the jury remains out
To complicate manners lot of these things might purposefully have been left ambiguous and CYOA-y.
