Evangelion:3.0+1.0 First 12 minutes 10 seconds online preview [March 8th]

I'm guessing this is 12 minutes of new footage. And why not show the audience something they've never seen before?

I think that everyone is expecting these 12 minutes to be an upgraded version of what we got in 2019 because that was promoted as being the first 10 minutes of the movie, right? So, these two previews would technically overlap.

Actually we know what we're getting in the second scene! It really is Shinji and co. continuing their walk.
We know this from the july 2019 trailer, which designated those shots as being from scene 2.

If I'm not mistaken, the "Paris segment" ends with Mari referring to Shinji, or something. So it would make a lot of sense for the next scene to be about his walk with Asuka and Rei. I mean, it would be a nice "cut".

The YouTube channel has the livestream set up already, and it plays the trailer until the actual stream starts. I’d suspect none of that would be visible to me using US servers if it were region locked.

Yeah, this video is set to YouTube's "premiere mode" at a worldwide basis, I believe. For me, the date and time of the premiere are already showing up (March 7, 12 am).

It's nice to know I'll be waking up to some sort of pleasant Evangelion surprise for the next week.

Anywho, I expect this to be just like when they premiered the opening space battle from 3.0 online the day before that film's release. Wouldn't expect to see our boy Shinji though. Khara has had a year and a half since Summer 2019 to play with that opening scene. Very curious to see what changes have been made.

Unless Avant1 has been extended (I would be surprised, it's a pretty long and dense scene already) these two minutes definitely will be scene 2 (probably not the whole thing), and we should get to see Shinji, Asuka and Rei Q.

For a long time I thought after Avant1 and 2 the scene count would restart, so that scene 2 would actually be the fourth. But official documents seemingly indicate Avant2 is also just scene 2, or "sn2" as they refer to it.

What I wonder is if there will be any dialogue.

I expect it to go like this:
After Mari's last line from Avant1, we get the Shin Eva title card, and music starts playing. This music will either continue through the 1:30 minutes (yep, the new footage is less than 2 minutes), or it will end before the footage ends, in case that there are more than 22 shots.

Here is where the soeculation really starts:
I expect the second scene to be slow, atmospheric and rather somber, accompanied by a melancholic Sagisu piece, maybe reminiscent of the Until You Come To Me. short.
We'll see Shinji, Asuka and Rei wandering the wasteland, getting to see the shots confirmed to be part of scene 2 (the two shots from the july 2019 trailer of the trio wndering), as well as similar shots in later trailers.

About how it ends: either it just abruptly ends, or it ends with a sort of "cliffhanger", with Asuka announcing something along the lines of "We are close to..." or "The Lilin will be able to pick us up here".

I don't expect any dialogue outside of maybe Asuka saying something at the end.

Would also be cool if subs are just not needed lol.

I also expect the 2017 Shin Eva poster to be the layout of the very first shot of scene 2, camera panning down from the sky to see our heroes in the distance.

There might not even be any dialogue lol. I'd wait for now.

If they didn't care they wouldn't have shown Avant1 in Paris and the US.
But we also gotta accept the reality that moat Eva fans are in Japan.

That said subs (if needed) would be nice and easy to add.

I can clearly see that being the case! It would be an amazing way to reintroduce the main characters! Asuka could be focused on completing the mission, Shinji could be moaning (while being emotionally destroyed) and Ayanami, through some subtle actions, could start to show some interest in the world around her. Yeah, that could all be conveyed through movements, rather than words. I mean, I’m not saying that this will certainly happen. But it is a possibility, nevertheless.
Some people are also suggesting that the extra two minutes are comprised of new scenes from Avant1. While I can clearly see that being the case, I'm not sure. I mean, that scene was already good enough, in my opinion. It sets the tone of the move, has a great fight sequence and reintroduces Ritsuko, Maya and Mari. Most importantly, it also explains where the spare parts for Unit 02 came from. I really don't know what else they could put in this segment hahaha!

It’s commonly known that upon first release they do not care for people outside of Japan that’s why it’s a Japan only release with no subtitles other than probably Japanese for hard of hearing people.

I can clearly see that being the case! It would be an amazing way to reintroduce the main characters! Yeah, that's what I was imagining! Even the few shots we saw tell much through the way the characters walk.
But whatever it ends up being, I'll probably love it haha.


Now this is one of those times where I acknowledge things are more complex than this and I'm doing this for fun mostly:

I checked the 1.11 sequence of Shinji wandering alone. You know, the one with the slow, sad rendition of Hedgehog's Dilemma. That actually is about 1:30 too! And it has 22 shots. Which lines up with the number of shots accompanied by Sagisu's theme for scene 2. Not that this proves anything, but a similarly slow, moody scene is possible.

The 1.11 sequence is interrupted by a shirt scene of Shinji's classmates with slightly faster rhythm, but I'd say it still about lines up.

lol, even before seeing this thread, my thoughts aligned with Kuribo's. I'd wager the extra 2 minutes are Avant 2 ending on some of a cliffhanger(?) since Japanese audiences will be diving into the film at midnight or the next day.

I'm curious, though, if we'll get some Dan Kanemitsu subtitled option on the Youtube video or what, because various international translations from YT's drop down option would be great. Especially only for a 12 minute upload.
