Another time, another place.
An activation test of a decisive weapon was underway.
With its development and operational trials shrouded in complete
secrecy, the Another Number - Unit Null, suddenly breaks free of human
control and goes berserk.

For what purpose was Another Number - Unit Null created?

The story of an Evangelion’s activation, rampage and howling in another world.

I admit that if it wasn't for this mention of this "Unit-Null" designation, I would had thought that this short would be about the activation test of EVA-04.
Still, the "another time, another place" seems to indicate that it's before the events of Q.

Ah, another EVA-based short, I can hardly wait. I don't particularly care if its connected to Q or 4.0 or Hell the original, its Evangelion!! And its Aramaki Shinji's work, I loved his visuals in Vexille and Appleseed.

Well, we do have a very big cast of missing Evas in Rebuild. Null could be any of those (although the story sounds like it would fit into its own continuity since it doesn't seem to have any bearing on Q like Until You Come to Me).

I am a bit intrigued as to why it's so confidential, but maybe that's just to provoke hype, and each short doesn't really have much background prior to release anyway.

It's probably "confidential" in the sense of top secret info, kind of like the Second Impact documents in NGE-verse.

I love that Hayashibara was right about another derivative work. Though we have no hints if this derivative work takes place in NGE-verse or NTE-verse, huh?

In-thread note, no worries that this is in Rebuild of Eva subforum. If it appears to take place in NGE-verse, that can be moved easily there once we find out more.

Should be fun. Not excited about the heavy CG aspect of it. Hopefully it won't come across too much like a videogame cut scene. With 2 Eva shorts before the half way point we may end up seeing as many as 4 Eva shorts total in the Expo.

I also give it three weeks before a Black Evangelion figure is announced.

From the first shot, it looked like it was based of Unit-02 because of the way the head is shaped and the horn outline.

Unit Null, well wonder what that means in relation to the Evangelion.

Yeah, unlike until You come to me, Anno isn't even credited on the project's tab. So, that should settle the debate. It's not canon.

Since we don't have the complete credits yet, Anno might still get an "original work" credit as he usually does when it comes to Eva.

But it's not like that's relevant. Only the main features are canon.

It doesn't even have to be canonical if you ask me. Even if Until You Come To Me isn't canonical, it's still clearly set primarily "within" the ENT-verse. Whereas this one isn't even pretending that much.

Why does Until you come to me. need to be canon to be relevant in some way? It didn't even portray actual events, so it's not like something happens that interferes with the final film.
The Expo is a big project by Anno, and suddenly we get an Eva short. Notice how it being an Eva short was a surprise, it's not at all like with this one. It was important. This one? We even saw it in the trailer. The other one was also made by khara, this one wasn't.
I think we shouldn't pretend we know how relevant Until you come to me is. Only Anno knows. Especially if there's still a film left that hasn't even begun production, so everything is open.

Maybe there's a chance it's somehow related to a previously unknown live-action project? The CG eva looks like it came straight out of a live action film.
