Imo you all sound a bit like spoiled children.
It is already challenging enough to meet the January release date in Japan and there is still a big chance theaters will be closed by January, especially if the situation keeps going on the current trend:
Regarding an international release, it's pretty much impossible right now. The first obstacle is the cost of the license: as we know the Eva license is fairly expensive and anime in theaters, apart a few exceptions, are relatively niche. In the current climate, with theaters closed everywhere or half empty where they are open, buying Shin's license (as of today November 29th) is really risky.
After this first obstacle, there is another big obstacle: the movie needs to dubbed for a theatrical release to make commercial sense. Translating, adapting, dubbing and mixing a movie require months of work and we need to remember that the movie isn't even finished yet. Even if they finalized everything tomorrow there wouldn't be enough time to launch the movie in January.
Lastly, any distributor also need to sign contracts with theaters, again, another big hurdle.
The only realistic way to skip all this issues was to negotiate deals for screenings at comicons, but good luck with any of them happening in the winter.
My optimistic/realistic guess is Shin somehow managing to open in Japan on schedule and the movie coming out in theaters in the west somewhere around spring depending on COVID and also the distributors' pipeline (for example here in Italy theaters are shut down but the distributor of Eva has already announced a theatrical release of NGE: The Feature Film and Demon Slayer "post-covid", so Shin would have to come third in line).
Patiente my fellow nerds, anger is the way of pulling a Shinji-kun
I want to burn my eyeballs and ears watching Shin as much as everyone else, but we need to wait.
