Maybe this time Shinji will be the one to fuse with Lilith and Kaworu will have to descend into TD to stop him from causing TI. Ha...Theory's are fun to screw with.

Kaworu and Shinji are apparently brothers in rebuild or something along thoes lines.

Discuss what you think Kaworu ment when he called gendo his father.

I'm almost completely sure that no matter what Kaworu meant by that, it is not to be taken literally.

Maybe Kaworu just refers to the role Gendo is playing within the ranks of Nerv: he is like some patriarchal, distant God, like the Old Testament version of the Judeo-Christian deity.

I think Gendo isn't his father... literally... I think that's something symbolic.
Maybe Gendo created Kaworu the same way he created Rei using Adam ADN and without dead wife...

I get the impression that it's not meant to indicate that Gendo is his father so much that he thinks he's close to Shinji. In Japanese, it's common for a friend to call his friend's father "otou-san". It's a level of familiarity, kind of like honorifics and calling an older friend "onee-san" or "onii-san" (honorifics may vary). Whether that familiarity actually exists between Gendo and Kaworu is debatable, which could mean that Kaworu was being tongue-and-cheek about it (implying a familiarity when clearly none exists).

"Father" as in "You must be Shinji's father" something along those lines.

Yah... I think will need official english subs or maby even the dub before we know for sure. If he isnt rly his fater they will have to change that line somehow. so english natives understand what he is trying to convay.

I've totally been saying for a while that Kaworu was a Gendo clone in the same vein as the Yui/Rei/Lilith connection.

You know, in the case that Kaworu is still an angel, then if Gendo kinda fused with Adam off stage, then as much as Kaworu could be saying it to Gendo, he could simply be directing it at Adam.

This could be a possibility, correct me if I'm wrong:
If Gendo had an Adam embryo embedded into his hand at this point in the movie, is it possible that Kaworu is referring to Adam's salvaged body being in Gendo?
