Of course but if you are not in for toying with scale what are you looking for? KoS is not like the most polished mecha masterpiece but it's still unique and you get all those reading levels you have met before: space opera, shonen mecha hero things, coming of age through discovery of sexuality with loads of tributes to Aliens/ evangelion/ stuff about heroes growing femininity as intimacy..

All Nihei mangas throw some genocides now and then yeah.
Because of the scale of things:D.
But for the weak looking love interest to turn into a monster it's something evangelion did too and it's overplayed.

One last link, I can't recommend this since I've just found out about it, I feel like I missed out because of a shitty adaptation.
So yeah this is more in memory of excel saga:

Is there a reason I'm not allowed to post a free link to it? its not like you can buy it anywhere, and if you can then I had no idea.

Depending on your definition of "engaging", the works of Mohiro Kitoh sound like a good bet.
Life can seem a challenge. Life can seem impossible. It's never easy when so much is on the line.

Ok everyone I'm offering you a chance to be in on the ground floor for the next big thing.

This is such a cool manga. Violent, Action, Sci-Fi, Horror, and more. If you're a fan of manga like Dorohedoro, Battle Angel Alita, Blame! or more you have to give it a try. Remember One Punch Man started out as a web manga too? The basic plot is a "hunting" story like Full Metal Alchemist, Soul Eater or even Bleach but you need to see how crazy and cool the style is around it.

Just noticed that Mob Psycho 100 is done. I wonder what One will do next?

For Mob, the relationship between Mob and Reigen was tops for me; trying to offer someone else what they need to grow up, when you know you're not altogether yourself.

Straddles two periods of developing maturity quite nicely. Having Reigen be the most mature person in a room full of psychos was just consistently hilarious, and having him come forward about everything, a nice way to...

... wait... I'm not sure we really got a good resolution to Reigen's problems... meh, maybe that's part of the point?
