The San Diego Comic Convention begins tomorrow, gentlemen.
Shin Evangelion brought me back, five long years later.

You can put them in the pictures thread, I think. I could be wrong, though.
In other news, I'm heading home from the San Diego Comic Convention today. It was pretty awesome- more on that here.

I don't go for dub actors but the Japanese lineup is pretty good. Japan Expo USA is also that weekend.

So, it looks like a local 1st year convention is going to turn in to a bit of a disaster. The Warning signs are all out in public.
.Otakucon (No relation to the US monster') looks set to run in the middle of December, three weeks after the largest con of the year (Eirtakon X). With as many big-name guests as the largest con of the year, and a ticket price that's less than 2/3rds of the cost. (20 a weekend, to the more normal 35 that cons seem to have settled on).
It was already looking to be a bit of a fail when people started wondering just how they were expecting to cover Venue, Guests and all the other ancillaries costs. There is evidence to suggest that they probably can't. And the Director's been blustering about going to the Guards on people who say as much, for [sic]'Deformation'
EDIT (Posting This was probably something of a bad idea, tbh. I've cut the post down as a result)

Nowhere that I can prove it was the Director making it. Was posted anonymously so it's pretty circumstantial. Have a snip of it.
The con's homepage is pretty sparse. They seem to prefer facebook

I still have to get my photographs from Eirtakon developed...
It was a strangely melancholy experience. I've been to all ten of them - from the first one where 200 people showed up, to two weeks ago when that number was closer to 3,200.
In other news, Otakucon has had a guest pull out, and has managed to sell an estimated 35 tickets at pre-reg. It seems to be still happening next weekend.... I hope those 35 people have a good time.
Finally, Kaizokukon down in Cork promises to be interesting. Especially since it's also become an excuse for an impromptu whiskey-tasting session amongst a few friends that are travelling concurrently. Oh, and Mad Moxxi and Rei Ayanami will be there....

Still planning to go to Katsucon in Feburary. Everything's paid for and everything.
Still willing to meet up with anyone up there if they feel so inclined.

SacAnime's normally off my list since they primarily focus on dub actors, but their lineup for this January 2-4 is pretty damn impressive. Personally I'm interested in:
Peter Cullen
4 Sailor Moon VAs who worked on the original dub
There's some SnK people coming too.
Toshio Maeda and Mamoru Yokota are coming as artists. Maeda's a regular at Big Wow ComicFest and AX while Yokotoa hasn't been stateside since 2012. Even if you could care less about Urotsukidoji or La Blue Girl, check Maeda out, as he's very fan friendly.
Not sure if I can go yet. Cullen's autograph starts at $135 and for $30 you get the VIP package, but G1 was such a key part of my childhood and I've disregarded all subsequent versions of Transformers.

Anybody hear heard of Anime Overload in Austin? Houston's own anime con is earlier in the year (and only 1 con, compared to Austin's 2).
Anime Overload sounds on the smaller side (which is fine by me) so I'm curious about it. I miss Fanime, though I've only been twice.

You could drive for a few hours to hit up A-Kon in Dallas.

Just received word, I will be a panelist at MAGFest in January. Super excited.
I haven't heard back about all of my panels yet, but so far, I know that I will be doing:
Anyone else planning to be at MAGFest? Anyone want to challenge me to a round of Tetris?
I haven't heard back about all of my panels yet, but so far, I know that I will be doing:
Sega does... what Nintendon't
After the video game industry crash of 1983, Nintendo was able to explode onto the scene and secure the vast majority of the market, and it remained largely unchallenged until the early 1990s when Sega gained a foothold with the Sega Genesis and games like Sonic the Hedgehog. What followed was the infamous "bit wars" between Nintendo and Sega, an at times childish back-and-forth that has ingrained itself into the collective memory of gaming. We'll take a look at the history of Sega, how it became a serious competitor to Nintendo, where it went wrong, and how it all fell apart. We'll look at its well-known blunders with hardware, as well as the advertising and marketing that ranged from absurd to just plain "what were they thinking" weird.
