Kensuke and Hikari are, from what we see, pretty well-adjusted.

Those two are surprisingly very normal compared to the rest of the cast (I also find it funny/delightful that their voice actors were also cast as supporting characters in another monumental show some 16 years later).

I knew about Saotome-sensei, but I did not know Madoka's father was Kensuke. This is truly WINx2 stuff!
I never thought I would come back to Evangelion after EoE,
But I discovered Re-Take (or it found me?) and
now here I am.

Everyone in that class has a dead mom, remember, and since all of their their parents work for Nerv (directly or indirectly) it is to be assumed they pretty much have to have raised themselves. How much of Hikari's responsibility and Kensuke's otakudom are actually compensating for this underlying trauma? How much of Toji's 'manly pride' is just keeping up a brave face? Even the teacher is apparently so traumatized by 2nd impact that every lecture goes back to this topic.

It is interesting to learn that those two were a part of PMMM too.

@topic I’d say Hyuga seems to be pretty well adjusted but he most likely has 2I trauma. I think it is safe to say that all characters have suffered trauma of some kind be that 2I trauma or the loss of a loved one

In the third episode, when Shinji answers "Y" to the question of if he was the pilot of that robot and then everyone crowds around him, wasn't the teacher still talking?

yeah he's probably senile

or so traumatized he's reverted back to something

I like Nemz answer better.

True. If we discount, EoE, though, and say "Who in Eva doesn't have trauma (at the beginning)?" its' gotta be Aoba. Maybe Hyuga. But, then again, knowing Eva, they probably watched their father commit murder-suicide on their mother or something.

Aoba because he's such a nihilistic cynic so he probably just shrugs off everything.

Fuyutsuki has also got his head on pretty straight.

Everybody in the show is, of course, affected by Second Impact; it's a major part of the setting for the show. That, plus the semi-constant barrage of Angel attacks are going to have a deep emotional impact on the occupants of Tokyo-3. Lastly, EoE pretty much flat out tells us that everybody is dealing with some sort of sorrow. These are essentially the lowest common factors among everybody.

Note that I used the word "well-adjusted" (though, I should have probably thrown the word "relatively" in there too). From what we do see, Kensuke and Hikari act like regular teenagers. In fact, many of the teenagers in their class act like regular teenagers. It's safe to assume that they're all well-adjusted. Are they perfectly healthy emotionally? Probably not. But they seem to be able to cope effectively enough.

Yeah, he and the bridge bunnies are the only candidates IMO. Hikari and Kensuke are coping well all things considered, but they still come from fractured families (though that might hold for Fuyu and the bridge bunnies as well; we don't know enough about them to say for certain).

I'm sure that all NERV employees are subjected to rigorous psychological screening as part of recruitment, and the stable ones get to wear orange jumpsuits and do all the useful background engineering work.

Hikari's bossiness as class rep may stem from having to take the place of a authoritative figure at home. And she probably becomes traumatized after what happens to Toji (in both the manga and anime).

Kaji seems to have little trauma in his past, though his present situation throughout the series may have been considered enough.

I was thinking the same thing. Considering all that he's faced with and all the he's seen, he copes quite well. Even in the face of 3I, he embraced it(Yui) while the world went to sh!t.

Just because you can find the root of a behavior does not mean that one is traumatized and emotionally scarred. If anything, this trait is a benefit that was strengthened by childhood experience. Besides, outside of her role as class representative she's quite nice and very timid. She simply knows when to put on her leader shoes.

Maybe we should make a list of everyone in the series, ranging from least traumatized to most traumatized.
