Settei = materials relevant to the production like character, mecha, setting designs, etc.

Probably won't have anything we haven't seen before in the dozens of books released in the last 20 years, but hey, now it's all in ONE book! Almost and inch thick at 432 pages and only 3,000 yen.

If you've skipping out on all those previous books this might be a good investment. Comes out August 7th. The BD Box coming out later on the 26th can be used as book end if you have too few books to fill up a shelf.

At 400+ pages, I'm going to hold out some hope that there's something in there we haven't seen before... Certain aspects of NGE settei have always been pretty skimpy, and here's an obvious chance to correct that.

Actually now that I think about it we could get a few more sketches here and there.

The 1.0 CRC included a bunch of previously unpublished Sachiel concepts.

Maybe the main benefit of this will be BIGGER versions of stuff we've seen before. One example being Kaworu's concept art in 100% Newtype book is tiiiiiiny. New book is A4 sized and needs loads of pages to fill.

There have actually been two A4-sized collections of NGE settei, which include a good-sized chunk of what was published in Newtype 100%. Put together, they might break 100 pages, and that's with only single-sided printing.

Published settei for the films is limited entirely to what's crammed in the back of Groundwork of Movie Vol. 2, and it's hard to believe that's it. Settei for the video versions of 21-24 have never been published anywhere, to my knowledge.

I guess we'll find out around Aug 6th-ish when Japan starts spamming pics of their copies on twitter.

But anyways

Nnngh, I might have to give in and buy this one. The preview images on Amazon.jp are seriously tempting. I've had serious issues with damaged product buying from Amazon recently, especially where books are concerned. Hopefully I'll have some better luck with the Japanese branch.

This should be interesting, since it sounds like it'll have new materials based on the page numbers.

Just go to http://www.amazon.co.jp/. I'm pretty sure it picks up your existing account info, and if it doesn't always get the language right, use Chrome and tell it to translate. (I use Amazon occasionally in France, Germany, Canada and the US as well, all using my UK login.)

But I go to http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/ more often, as it has a properly English version, and usually more of what I want.

Oh, cool. I thought there would be some shipping restrictions or other problems, thank you for the info.

Some Amazon marketplace sellers won't ship - quite a lot, actually - so there is that. But Amazon themselves do.

Khara's publishing arm, Groundworks, seems to be very inconsistent at getting things stocked. Maybe they still underestimate demand. The whole in and out of stock thing has already happened with both Q Groundwork books and this seems to follow the pattern.

Hold on. Are you saying that my US Amazon account can work on the Japanese or any other country's version? If so, I didn't know it was possible.

I'm in Canada. I can't use American amazon.com, it sends me to .ca which usually doesn't have what I want. Canada always gets the shaft like this when it comes to North American retailers.

But I can however use amazon.co.jp without any issue and have done so since ugh...2006 I think.

^Really? That's odd. I'm also in Canada, but I've used the American Amazon.com plenty of times, as well as France's version of Amazon. (Strangely enough, for me it was the Japanese version that didn't let me sign in, until I created a separate account a few years ago with my name written in Japanese. Weird! Maybe they changed their policy later, and that's why everyone else can use it without problems now, heh.) Well, when I go to the American site it asks me if I want to switch to the Canadian one, but I just click on "Stay on Amazon.com" and then it works fine. I wonder why it's forcing you to use the Canadian version? Do you think it varies depending on what province you're in?

...perhaps I will reconsider buying one. That amazon link is only listing one, though, and it's used...
