The ponytail girl should be Rei too. I guess school uniform Rei is Rei Q (she seems curious) and ponytail Rei is Rei II.

I don't think we see Ryoji Jr with the cross pendant in Shin, so it should be fan interpretation.

So the artist goes with the interpretation that Rei II and Rei Q are two different persons? (to be honest, I thought the same until the doll with "Tsubame" written on it appeared in Rei II's arms)

I'm still bummed that Rei didn't kept the long hair in the epilogue, the "long and disheveled hair" look actually looks good on her.

And Reipunzel looks on its way to becoming an icon of NTE, like Asuka with the patched up plugsuit, red track suit and cat hat. (do we even see them again in Shin?)

If it's really how it is, then I'll admit that I'm still a little bummed that Rei Q's character arc through Q abruptly ended in the middle of Shin, I would had liked if the movie completely explored the concept of her being her own person and making a life that's her own. (and you know, keeping it for more than a few weeks)

It’s so weird to me how Rei has come full circle from the bigtime fan-favorite with mountains of content, fanshrines etc... to being one of those super underrated, underappreciated characters.

There’s barely 2 pages of Rei-centric content on Ao3. 1, if you don’t count all the weird porn.

I do love the recent development that she seems to have become one of the patronsaints of webcore

The more I see these fanarts the more I think the whole Misato, Kaji and Kaji Jr story was underutilized, the less I understand what the hell Kaworu is doing on the Gendo side and the more I suspect that we will never know how Kaji's sacrifice was to prevent the 3I because it will end like the infamous Han Solo race that has been awaited for decades to be that horrible thing on Solo: A Star Wars Story ...

Regarding Kaworu in Gendo's side, I think it's because he won't be accepted and trusted by WILLE. So, he prefers to keep an eye on Gendo and look for a way to help humanity from there.

WILLE doesn't really trust Asuka and Mari (the DSS chokers and explosives in their room), who have working with them for 14 years. They would never trust on Kaworu (Seele's boy).

In Q, it is mentioned the DSS choker was created for Kaworu (he was the only Eva pilot with an Eva after NTI), but he didn't use it. So, I think he wouldn't want to work with WILLE in that condition.


PS: Not to mention that WILLE only have two Evas and can't create new ones. They don't really have use for Kaworu.

The confidence problems would have been much less if he had handed Gendo and Fuyu over to Wille. No one needs to watch over the dead. Or at least he had returned Shinji when they left to see the city. His friendship with Kaji reminded me of Koji Takao mentioning Kaji's recommendations about Misato only that he either couldn't trust Misato or he wanted to be Shinji's great savior and needed Gendo, Fuyu and Rei Q to approach him. If it was the last option, disgrace is inevitable when making deals with the Devil. As an angel, Kaworu should know that well!
