Has anyone else experienced this or is it just me?
I'm sure listening to the End of Evangelion them song, Air II over and over isn't helping, but its just such a beautiful song. Its like Anno lets you bond with these charachters over the series, and just takes them away from you in End of Evangelion. I know the world isn't supposed to be portrayed so disney and peachy, but this was the darkest **** i've ever seen in my life.
Happened to me but it was self reflection. If you're in depression I'd seek help. These are fictional characters. I've become attached to characters before and become emotional when they are lost but remember it's an anime and not real, it's a story that can help you if used right and you should just reflect, don't become like Shinji and shun people, that's what Anno was against, since he was sorting out his life while making the films. The characters aren't really gone, they're LCL and if they want to come back they can like Shinji did...but I know I'm being cold when I say this, but if they didn't want to live they are better off dead.
EoE is a very artfully thought out ending to an extraordinary series of events that play out the roles of characters that you come to know. I'll ask this though, would you have actually liked it more if it came out all happy? The loss of something just like the saying goes, "You never know what you have until you lose it.", the characters are taken for granted and when they are gone we get upset because we become uncomfortable with the change.
The psychology and sociological aspects of the series and ending films are oft times over thought. Really a lot of the 'strange' aspects are just things thrown in that are thought to be taboo or something that could be seen as absurd in real life, such as /SPOILER/-------Rei being the clone of Shinji's mom and him having sexual attractions to her but even though she's a clone of Shinji's mom she ISN'T Shinji's mom, just a biological copy, yet she has her own personality which makes her completely different.
Others things like trying to find acceptance is just something everybody does without usually noticing it but when it's thrown in our face we see it for all that we couldn't before.
Sexuality is a aspect of humanity that has gone through so many stages they are probably uncountable and basically it's taboo to be spoken yet it's the single thing that keeps the human race from dying out, and that's reproduction. Yet we seem to connect it with something more because it's so rare to be spoken of these days, so it's connected in the series with affection, acceptance, self discovery and all of that, even though most of it is observed by fourteen year old children that are still going through puberty and don't even come close to understanding themselves or the world.
Basically what I grabbed is that even though you may think yourself small and insignificant you connect with many peoples lives in ways you do not understand (remember the 'Shinji in blah blahs mind over and over) that is you in that persons life, you impact them so it changes them. Your decisions are what shape your world and the ending basically gives Shinji a new start in a blank world where he can make it what he wants it to be without hindrence from anything, even Asuka which he shows dominance over when he's choking her, it's a weird way to show it but that was one of his final obstacles to over-come.
Holy crap I rambled...sorry if it's hard to read. Talking out your feelings is the best way to sort them out, because getting a view from all angles is better than a single angle.
