I agree with this completely. I picked up Pokemon Platinum in September last year, in the following seven months I spent around two hundred hours on it. In that time I probably could have written a few short stories, got a drivers' liscence, or watched a handful of anime/tv series.
At the moment I'm playing through SoulSilver, though honestly most of the time that I've spent on these fourth gen games has been training/grinding, particularly for battle frontier points. I've only recently finished the Kanto arc on SS, I haven't gotten a full team ready for Red/ Elite Four II so I anticipate I'll be spending a while figuring out that.

I'm not sure about the new games at the moment. I'd like to play them, and I know a good friend of mine will so that could make the experience more interesting, yet I have a short list of other games that I intend to play in the near future: Deus Ex. Galactic Civilisations II. Left 4 Dead. Crysis. ... to name a few.

As much as I'd like to keep going with Pokemon after I finish up SoulSilver, I have a strong feeling that it would be in my best interests if I didn't.

I never owned Red or Blue. I remember saving and saving my money, andn then my mom taking me to Toys-R-Us and picking up Yellow. That was my first ever Pokemon game. I loved Yellow.

I never owned any of the first gen games but I did have emulators for them. I had Blue/Red/Yellow, I played Blue the most but I never finished Elite Four. I ended up getting a loose and unfinished fan translation of Gold not long after it came out in Japan, I got a real version of Silver with my first and only game boy at the end of 2000. After that I more or less gave up on the emulators for a couple of years though I did have a brief stint with Crystal.

I ended up coming back to the emulators in 2007. I played through and finished Pokemon Yellow before going on to FireRed. I played Emerald and LeafGreen on emulator in 2008, which I adored. I confess that beyond the similar locations and progression of gameplay, I felt very little nostalgia from the Gen I remakes and I feel even less with the recent Gen II remakes.

If that wasn't bad enough. Black and White are also region locked and won't play on US/EU DS's... WTF Nintendo... way to alienate a ton of sales... Almost everyone imports Pokemon games...

Course, I'm still peeved about the change to casinos in my fav Poke game ever, Gold... albiet HeartGold

They're only region locked on the DSi and DSi XL, as was expected. I'm playing my copy on a DS Lite right now.

and if they had a do all game then everyone would buy that instead of having to buy each Pokemon game.

Same reason why you can't aquire all the original Pokemon in the first generation games: they want you to buy more games in order to get all the Pokemon.

I'm guessing they're implying that Nintendo sent them a lawyer to screw up their plans like SEELE sent in Kaworu to screw up Gendo's.

I started using Gen IV's Global Terminal to search for and hopefully trade Pokemon. It seems everyone wants a Darkrai, a Shaymin or some other event-only Pokemon, failing that they want something ridiculously high leveled in exchange for something that isn't.

Anyway, amongst this nonsense I managed to find two good trades on SoulSilver. First I got a level 2 Chikorita in exchange for an under-10 Miltank - I had to hatch said Miltank from an egg, the Chikorita I got in exchange was also egg hatched. Secondly I got a Graveller (which subsequently evolved into Golem) in exchange for a Jumpluff I caught at the safari zone. The Graveller/Golem in question was from a Japanese player and to my surprise it was from Pokemon Emerald version and had been taught DynamicPunch from that games' move tutor.
