Ore x Accel. BP
Bagheera wrote:Ore Monogatari 1: I'm baffled as to why I haven't been watching this show. It offers a strong start, so I'm keen to stick with it. And now I can marathon it, so whee!
The show is good, I love how it's turning genre conventions on its head without being cynical about it. It's an atypical love story. I will mention though that after Suno's family story, it feels like it stagnated just a tad.
BTW, this story shares universe space with Nisekoi. Really, it just blows my mind, because I'd say this show exemplies everything Nisekoi needed to stop the suck.
Speaking of sharing...
Accel World
I knew they had the same writer, but I was still surprised to find out that this show and Sword Art Online shared continuity. I'm half expecting Kirito turn out to be the designer of their... Er... Neck-net-things.
To say what's right about the show, I feel like I'm repeating myself about Fractale. Ergo, world building is top knotch. Including SOA's development and glimpses into other online game worlds gives it depth where you can sense the progression this version of humanity has taken.
It feels like a lived-in world.
... Meh, everything else though is pretty bland. The only other thing I can think of that sets this show apart is the unconventional MC. Ore monogatari has one too of course, but I'd say it was better at turning that into an asset.
The MC here is funny for the first few minutes, then he's just kind of there.

Carrying on with Hōkago no Pleiades mainly for the astrophysics fan-service, and a little bit for the tangled world-lines stuff that's being hinted, because otherwise it is the epitome of blandness. Pretty girls with no character, antagonists with no menace, action scenes with no tension -- none of it actively bad, but neither does it have much positive going for it.
Just over half-way through, it hasn't established itself even as much as Gen'ei o Kakeru Taiyō did in the three episodes I gave that; even the MC is still a moe-blob cipher, and the other characters just vanish from consciousness. It needed a lot more of the " > School > Slice of life " up front, or just dropping that side almost entirely and turning the astronomy porn up to eleven.

Finally watching Monogatari S2 even though it's old by this point. So sue me, I was still trying to figure out all the anime I wanted to watch while it was airing and didn't have a certain client. It's pretty good so far; I think I'm enjoying it the most out of all the -monogatari stuff. I guess only time will tell if I continue to think of it so highly.
Shin Evangelion brought me back, five long years later.

Gatchaman Crowds: Insight 1: Not digging the new character; she seems redundant what with Hajime and all, and with Ruri joining the crew things just seem busy. Also, lots of random crap here. The alien, lots of social media, the red Crowds . . . I realize it's on the first ep, but some indication of why would be nice.
Also, is there a reason JJ's efforts to awaken new Gatchamen always feel like rape scenes? That's seriously creepy, man.
On the upside it's abundantly clear that Katze hasn't compromised Hajime in the least, so that's nice. I also noted that she and the old fart were the only one with grey chat bubbles, so that's probably significant (but we already knew Hajime is wise, so maybe redundant). Also liked the new OP from White Ash.
All in all a mixed bag, but we'll see what happens from here.

Its only the first episodes so it's hard to say where or how it will go. I can say however, I think it has promise. It's a pretty good concept that has been done before (See Rome Sweet Rome ) Lets just hope they don't mess it up. If they focus more on the fantasy aspect then the modern military then I'll be rather disappointing. However I don't really peg Japan for an all out war even in an anime. I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that it ends with diplomacy (especially given there was a shot in the opening of a fantasy princess type female talking to a modern crowd) Lastly I"m going to end up getting pissed off at the main character at some point. He has little motivation and no ambition. He says repeatedly that he only works to support his hobby (he's an otaku)
I've also been making steady progress through Mushishi. Currently at episode 24 with only a handful remaining. It has kinda been "Monster of the Week" in that it doesn't have any cases that span more then the length of an episode. That being said it's still left me with a pleasant feeling after every episode. Some are better then others and there hasn't been any filler. I'm fairly confident it won't drop the ball in these remaining episodes.
Blade and Soul
God this anime is bad.
Excessive tropes make it very predictable and sometimes funny (even if the mood is meant to be serious). I've gotten to episode 6 although I'm not sure if I'll continue or not. I started it because I was on convalescent leave after surgery and I needed something to occupy my time. At least I can laugh at the obvious and numerous tropes. I"m unsure whether I'll continue it or not.
Patlabor
I've picked it back up, or rather I've continued it where I've left off. I'm currently on the downhill of the 50 episodes at 38 and it still keeps me interested. The filler is fun and entertaining so no complaints there.
Finally I'm at loss for another anime. I want a good mecha anime. Patlabor, while fun and entertain, just doesn't fill the void of action and destruction I'm looking for. I tried watching Knights of Sidonia but the full 3D animation only gave me an "Uncanny Vally" vibe that I could shake, even after a few episodes. Everyone seemed to look pretty much the same. While I understand that can partially be explained by plot, it still doesn't sit well with me when I can't identify who is speaking with who. None of the character movements where fluid and done in a way that makes me think amateurs produced it. I"m not saying I can do any better but this looks very similar to RWBY. One good thing I can say about this is the mech movement was astounding, however not good enough to make me stay.
There have been many others but I don't think I have the time to list the past two years worth.

Awesome. I'm going to start the first season soon.
GATE Ep 1
I would enjoy 24 episodes of NIPPON STRONK killing Orgs from a foreign RPG world if we actually got to see it. Too gore shy for its premise and already cutting corners in the first episode.
Little Witch Academia 2
Trigger did not disappoint. Worth the money and wait. Loved every second of it, pole dancing and all.

Finished Jojo which was pretty good, wonder if they'll do another season, hope they do.
Also dang, that new Haruhi series has been pretty dissapointing, I thought they were going to do something interesting when Yuki got a split personality for a bit, but no they did the exact opposite of something interesting. They didn't even explain why that happened.
Oh well the new Durararara seasons starting up so I suppose that'll be something decent to watch for awhile. Anything else good on right now?

I thought all three seasons of it were decent, they might be talking about the original jojo oav which was alright but not as good as the current series.

I'd say start with the 2012 anime, as for bad adaptations there's that phantom blood movie that never made it on DVD/bluray since Araki hated it so much. The ova that came out in 2000 wasn't very good but the original ova is pretty alright but I'd say the stardust crusaders TV anime is better

just watched the first ep of that masterful motherfucker of melancholia JUN MAEDAWWWW's nuevo anime cuisine.
The power of pubescent hormones cause more than just boners and bleeding for a select few children in Japanland.
Kind of like X-Men, but if one started off as a bit of a cock, abusing his powers and shit.
Eh, it's an okay first ep., intriguing, but I don't have much to go on yet, but it does leave me wanting to see more.

Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.
