How plausible is the Time Loop theory here? It seems to make sense given Kaworu's final lines in both 2.0 and 3.0, if that's the case it would make Q's time skip a bit easier to take in as it would be essentially in VN terms a "bad end" and Kaworu would repeat, with Kaworu having knowledge of his task in each cycle. If this is the case the end of Final will be Shinji rejecting Instrumentality yet again and either A: Living in the world he created, accepting whatever or B: Repeating yet again, but I doubt Shinji ever reset the world in any of the alternate timelines as it was all most likely Kaworu doing it. Is repeating possible? I haven't read everything on Q but did Kaworu know a way and it was like knew how to but had the wrong materials by the end of Q kinda deal?

Not really plausible. I rate Time Loop and Sequel/Prequel Theories the same: they may look good on paper but the whole point of Rebuild is to establish it as a separate, alternate ending from EoE. No time loops or returns from the original TV series. Additionally, while Kaworu's dialogue might seem suggestive, he never exhibits any reason to be able to use Quantum!Magic. Rei could only use Quantum!Magic when reunited with her body as Lilith, and I doubt even she had enough power to completely reset time. So there's no way Kaworu, who never re-united with his Angel body, can use Quantum!Magic. Time loops are a bit too radical, even for Evangelion (I don't think they'd even fit in the rubber science category).

Fun fact about Evangelion! If anybody remembers, we are treated to a look of the plug depth monitoring system just before Shinji achieves the fabled 400% synch rate. The final value is listed as "The Great Beyond Depth". Ooh, the conspiracy theories that this will spawn!

Rebuild could have its own time loops that bear no relationship to the original series.

If there is a time loop, I hope we see the final loop or the resolution or whatever. Too many big fantasy/sci fi series have disappeared up their own ass lately with some sort of time loop or repetition theme. Very often, it's a cop out to avoid a real ending.

Honestly, on the one hand I'm hoping for revelations and closure, but on the other hand I'm probably going to be disappointed if 4.0's ending doesn't at least rival EoE's in terms of "WTF did I just watch?"

Of course, this movie would tie up all of the loose ends, so it couldn't possibly happen. But hey, a guy can dream.

Ohhhh my Gawwwwdddd, how can they pass that off as a design!? Only thing I can think of to reason this out is that Asuka was having a fit because the EVA isn't red but Pink, so to please her they painted half of it red. Actually, that's probably going to be it, and i'm fine with the design if that's the reasoning, as visually unpleasing as it is.

I don't have a serious speculation on the plot of Final because I don't expect anything I say to be correct because Anno will take what we expect and change it around totally before it's premiere like with 3.0.

My somewhat joke theory is that 3.0 as a whole was a Red Herring movie and was meant to be the equavalent of EOTV 25/26 for the Rebuild series, a movie made just for Anno's Amusement and to piss off the fanbase and Final will be what was in the original preview for 3.0 but changed around to cover 20-24 and 25'/26' and also provide an epic ending to the Rebuild franchise.

As a result of watching the first section of the new camrip, and reading about the rest, I had been speculating somewhat along similar lines, with Q being one of the alternate realities which Shinji imagines while going through instrumentality and Final presenting another/others and the resolution.

But I haven't tried to see if this can be made logical yet; I'm just mulling it over.

Well, the trailer does proclaim something about "EVA 8+2 sprinting over the red earth". Who knows, maybe somebody from Gurren Lagann was brought on board the project.

The end of 3.0 was the most joyous part of the entire film in my opinion, can't wait to see what happens in the pilots pilgrimage, finally we'll get to see some interaction between them (don't screw this up for me Anno, please, I beg you!).

Also, can't wait to see this in Evangelion proportions

The reason I'm hoping it is a redherring is not only because the sequence seems nonsensical but also in a weird way because it will keep up the tradition of the next episode preview for the finale of an Evangelion work to have nothing to do with the actual episode aside from the voiceover by Misato (EOTV finale's preview featuring a piece of the AU script for example or 26' having a live action camera scrolling through Gainax Studios)

Anyone else think the new Nerv logo is actually a jigsaw that needs to be deciphered? It looks like the fractured parts are made up of re-arranged 2x2 tiles. I'm too stupid to figure it out, though.



EDIT: Now that I've seen it like this, the top middle two tiles seem to suggest they're divided up further. It reminds me of one of those kids' puzzle toys where you slide around the blocks to unscramble the picture.

What I Want from 4.0:

-A flashback sequence illustrating events between 2.0 and 3.0
-Shinji attempting suicide, only to be saved by Asuka.
-Asuka's eye and backstory to be explained
-Mari's backstory to be explained.
-CHARACTER-FUCKING-DEVELOPMENT
-Kaji and Original!Rei's triumphant returns with the rest of the supporting cast
-Shinji saving SOMEBODY.
-Excellent battle scenes with good drama
-An open ended, at the very least bittersweet, resolution.

What Anno will end up doing:

-Film opens with Gendo fapping to Huge Decapitated Rei.
-Shinji kills himself 10 minutes into the film.
-Asuka turns out to be a cyborg.
-Original!Rei is never seen or heard from again.
-The entire end credits roll over video of Anno, Tsurumaki, Enokido, Maeda and Sadamoto drinking beer and watching NGE while MST'ing it........it'll be meta as fuck.

Sometimes I wonder if my watching Eva is like the emotional equivelent of inflicting tourture porn on myself. I suspect I'll get that (sarcasm) wonderful (end sarcasm) feeling from Final. Well if I abandon all hope now maybe it won't hurt as bad.
