State of emergency to be declared today.

Well there it goes any probability of seeing shin eva this month and the likelihood of another delay is higher than ever.

Also RIP Kamen rider saber.

Don't assume Eva is done for yet. We still don't know what the state of emergency declarations even are. The most likely option in my opinion is having theaters run at half capacity. If that happens, movies can still be shown.

EDIT: I just read a news article, and I was right it seems. The only thing that's changing is decreased seating in restaurants and bars, and even that's more of a suggestion than an actual rule. This is nothing.

Theaters and other amusement facilities are still allowed to open at limited capacity until 8:00PM.

This will affect 3.333's release but I don't think it's going to attract a large number of casual audiences anyway, it's always been targeted for hardcore Eva or cinema enthusiasts. As for Shin, the ticket pre-orders start from January 13 which is still like a week away from now, so let's see.

EDIT:
State of emergency is active until February 7, which is two weeks after the supposed Shin Eva premiere. Now let's see whether Toho and Toei will slightly push the film until early-mid February to maximize profit or stick with January for consistency, even if it means smaller opening weekend admissions. For the record, I don't really mind a February release if that means more people can see the film safely and feel the festivity instead of going to the movies feeling insecure even if they're allowed to.

Doubtful Toho will do anything to push it back. Yes they're going to be impacted quite a bit in the Tokyo area but theaters are still operating at the end of the day (for now) and there's still the entirety of the country that isn't affected by this.
Please just call me Ian, "TheFrisky" is more of a title.

Toei's Sailor Moon Crystal: Eternal Part 1 (I mentioned it here) is screening Friday Japan-time, no problems—apparently even in the Tokyo area where COVID issues are. Which tells me that Shin is going to come out as scheduled. Maybe at the very least, things would be in limited capacity, depending on the theater?

As expected, Shin Eva's midnight premiere on January 22 is cancelled (the premiere event, not the film getting delayed), so the film will only start playing in regular hours from January 23.

I'm not sure what delaying the midnight release of the film will accomplish when it comes to trying to stop the spread of Covid though.

^ They are possible trying to reduce a crowded theater situation. Midnight Premieres tend to have a FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) on excited audiences, so cancelling it outright will (hopefully) reduce crowds.

But, if Japanese spoiler culture is anything like it is in America, I'm not sure how much that'll help.

The midnight release is cancelled because theaters agreed to shorten the opening hours.

The work for Music from Shin Evangelion album is almost completed and according to Sagisu himself, the total length of all three discs combined is almost 4 hours long!

Here's also another snippet of the score. I think it sounds closer to Sagisu's older works from the 90s than anything he made lately, especially Rebuild.

Does sound kind of familiar. Is it me or does it actually sound like the be the instrumental at the beginning of Everything you've ever dreamed. It would be interesting if they reused that song but then again I'm not very musically inclined

It also reminds me a lot of “until You come to me”. I want to hear more :(

The soundtrack will be epic, I’m so proud to be English knowing this soundtrack was performed by an English Orchesta in London.

It also surprised me actually when I first heard that the evangelion soundtracks were recorded in London by a London orchestra and not in Japan.
