I'd say Level 2 or 3 Canon.

All this pilgrimage promotion got really big after Lucky Star.

OBTW, thanks for the heads-up. I've been waiting for this ever since I first saw this map.

Update: uploaded...

Sorry for the necro, but someone was asking for the now-gone Mediafire link as well as the Photobucket link, both of them because I just deleted accounts from them out of disgust with their service.

Instead I've just uploaded the Tokyo-3 map to Imgur.

of course, you know, what with the 2nd and 3rd Ashino lakes, they're gonna have to redraw those maps....

Yes, I have watched Evangelion, the series and all four movies, at least thirty times in the past ten years. Some of it much more than that.

I just want to say I'm not very active in this forum because I get WAY too passionate about Eva and my opinions and theories and I know it, and I don't want to get carried away and start flamewars. It's (not) what I really want to do. ha ;)

I wonder what the "special image" is?

Is this connected to the San Francisco Mari app by any chance?

I got a wild guess, that a few debby downers won't approve of

Ah, I visited Lake Ashi a little over four years ago. It has sentimental value to me. Not because of Eva, but because of stuff I did there. It's a little trippy watching Eva and realizing I've been to this place even though it's in a foreign country that I only visited once.

Awesome. Will need to check to see if any places in town have these. We have a couple Japanese travel businesses that do a 'both-ways' thing (i.e. not only cater to the Japanese tourist in-region but to locals going to Japan as well) because Cairns is massively dependent on tourism and Japan is one of the major markets. It used to be the big one all through the 90s and early 00s but China has recently knocked it off top place in recent years.

I want that map! I'm not going to set foot in Japan for a long time (if ever), but I want that map!

There has got to be a way to obtain that map in the US. Will look into travel agencies @ SF Japantown.

Any chance of showing the map at a higher magnification?

Both pages of this thread should have map images, but some were deleted into oblivion since Megaupload went away.

Here's what I have (I think grabbed it from the blog on page 1): http://www.mediafire.com/?7iwx64bzzhkhlf2

I got the English map last year by asking The Japan Society for one. They were exhibiting at AX in Los Angeles and had the Rei in Yugata poster in their booth when I stopped by and asked if I could get that poster. They kindly took down my name and two months later not only did I have the 20x30 poster but also the English language map.

I don't know if they still have them, but you can contact either them or JTB, which has lots of English-language travel stuff. Worth a try if you really want it.

They had a whole stack of these at the 2011 Animazement in Raleigh, NC. I took, like, 5 of them.

Well you can buy it on your iPhone even if you're outside of Japan. A little expensive for what it is but it is kind of fun to click on the little spots and see the side-by-side comparison of what Hakone actually looks like to what they had in the show. You can zoom in pretty far. I'm sure the GPS feature is nice but since I'm in the US right now have no idea.

The special image is Rei and Asuka wearing kimonos with the lake in the background.

Seeing as the Japan Society is based out of NY and that Animazement like FanimeCon occurs on Memorial Day weekend, this may be why I didn't see them there last year. But bloody hell, FanimeCon is nearly 3x larger, albeit across the country.

I have to hold the phone sideways to see the whole image. There's no option to save the image that I can find in the app.

Curses, oh well. Does the App provide any interesting facts about the areas being explored?
