The new NERV crossed-hammers-insignia flag is drawn and painted. I'll scan it sometime this week and post it here.

Not only that, but I've also found myself...THE CROSSED-HAMMERS BELT BUCKLE I need for the Commander Shinji costume! It's available at Catacombs CDs, and I'll have to hurry up and get it.

I have another idea for Cmdr Shinji's costume: a red shirt with "armor plating" on the chest, not unlike a child's Batman costume. The idea is, I'm going for a kind of over-the-top, Raul Julia as M. Bison in Street Fighter look. What to make it from, though? Fiberglass, foam rubber, or some kind of plastic like Friendlyplastic?

Oh by the way, I think I really should write to Roger Waters and get his blessing. I feel I owe it to the man.

Okay, then, here's the NERV Hammer Insignia flag. I'll be sure to put this in Fan Art as well.

A slight logistical hurdle rears its ugly head. What's the best way to rig up the projectors without a) blinding the band and b) making sure the band members don't knock them over or cast shadows on the projections?

This could be solved very easily by having the projectors and other AV equipment behind the main performing stage, but then I have to deal with the problem of the stage area: will it be big enough to accomodate this?

I think I've found a plot hole in Asuka's story arc, specifically "Don't Leave Me Now."

So, "Young Lust" is her big entrance theme; she tries to come on to Shinji and fails miserably during "One of My Turns," and "Don't Leave Me Now" is her surprise that Shinji didn't "take the bait" but instead wrecked the apartment and almost killed her in the process.

The plot hole breaks open when we consider that Asuka should have run away from Shinji's terrifying behavior! Yes, Asuka came on to him, and yes, Shinji did have a lot of problems before then (her antics were just the little push he needed), BUT he's the one who overreacted! The blame should lie with him, yet I have Asuka singing "DLMN"!

One possible solution is that the song reflects her frustration at Shinji, and that it doesn't make literal sense in terms of the narrative, but is more of a "state of mind".

Another, more literal solution is to have Shinji singing the main lyrics and Asuka coming in with "To put through the shredder in front of my friends/To beat to a pulp on a Saturday night", as I feel that she can only see Shinji as a doll to use and abuse as she sees fit. Hmm...there's an idea right there. I can use that to introduce the new Pink doll which represents Shinji.

Thank you all so, so much for your kind words. I'd like to see this happen too, but I wouldn't know the first place to look for potential bandmates.

What I do know, however, is that I want to give the music a little bit more of a J-Pop (J-Rock, if such a thing exists)/ELO/Queen flavor, just for that extra "kick". "Run Like Hell" will be played at a slightly faster tempo than the album version as well.

No worries, though, 'cause I have five whole years to get this thing to fruition.

EDIT: Not only will I YouTube it, I will also personally make sure Roger Waters himself receives a DVD copy. Not sure he'd get EVA, though...

And now...

Some Notes on the Arrangement and Orchestration of "In the Flesh (Part II)"

What I want is to create a hybrid of the album version and the 1982 movie version. The first bit of the song (the DAH-dah) starts out with the heavy orchestral synth fading in, and THEN the electric guitars come crashing in for the first "solo riff". The guitars play on the repeat of the "DAH-dah" segment and the second riff. The orchestra synth returns for the first "James Bond chord progression", followed by the guitar, until both synth and guitar work together on the main leitmotif of the song.

Well, Rebuild 1.01 is out on DVD now. I'll have to get myself a copy for Christmas...hopefully, it'll stir some new life into this project.

Well, Rebuild 1.01 came in the mail, and I am really, really pleased with the improvement on the original TV show. I think the battle between the JSSDF forces and Sachiel at the beginning is handled much better here than in the original series, so it'll most likely be the material used for TWvsE. I wonder, though, how the hell am I going to put the Gendo Monster in place of Sachiel???

Meantime, I have a few new ideas for "The Trial."

A hunnert and firstly:

--As the instrumentation kicks in, a dilapidated, cardboardy-looking model of Tokyo-3 (think Power Rangers, but on an even lower budget) rises up from the ground, with Shinji sitting in the middle of the city. Aha, we realize it's on a stage. A curtain behind the model of the city opens up, and Lilywhite Lilith on her cross fades in like a Pepper's Ghost. Then, Kaworu in prosecutor's garb waltzes in from stage left, upstaging Lilith and Shinji.

--The monsters (Gendo/Sachiel, Asuka/Shamshel, and Yui/deranged Unit 01) are revealed to be bizarre marionettes controlled by Kaworu, who does his thing on a hidden stage in the rafters.

--Before the guitar solo explodes into life, Lilith comes off her cross, transforming into Judge Pen-Pen, who delivers the guilty verdict. Life flashes before Shinji's life as he spirals down into madness. The sound effects of the Wall being torn down accompany the visuals of Giant Naked Rei being destroyed.

NOBODY HOME's altered lyrics:

Got a little black book with my poems in
Got a bag with a toothbrush and comb
When I'm a good dog he'll sometimes throw me a bone in

I got elastic bands keeping my shoes on
Got those I'm-a-clone blues
Got 13 channels of shit on the TV to choose from

I got electric light
And I've got second sight
Got amazing powers of observation
And that is how I know
When I try to get through
On the telephone to you
There'll be nobody home

I got the obligatory shojo perm
And the inevitable battle burns
All down the front of my favorite schoolgirl skirt
I got LCL stains on my fingers
Got my happy pills on a chain*
Got an AT Field to prop up my mortal remains*

I got wild staring eyes
And I got a strong urge to fly
But I got nowhere to fly to

Ooooooh babe, when I pick up the phone
There's still nobody home

I got a pair of Gohills* boots
And I got fading roots.

(*1: I have another alternate couplet starting with "I got the smell of blood in my hair", but I need another sentence containing a rhyme for "hair.)

(*2: I'd like a Japanese brand of shoes with a two-syllable name. Any suggestions?)

Making my fellow forum members happy is a service I'm glad to provide. I just happen to have something mapped out for that particular song; you'll find earlier concepts posted elsewhere in this thread, but I've been refining it.
---------------------------------------
The real Shinji has been sitting onstage in handcuffs, forced to watch as his darker side--an amalgamation of himself and Gendo--goes through Instrumentality/Third Impact. (For the first bit here, we do not use footage.)

Rei! Ichi! Ni! Gi!

You cannot reach me now!
No matter how you try!
Goodbye, cruel world, it's over
Walk on by.

REAL!Shinji
Sitting in a bunker, here behind my wall

GENDO!Shinji
Waiting for the worms to come

REAL!Shinji
In perfect isolation, here behind my wall

GENDO!Shinji
Waiting for the worms to come

(The AMV begins! We start with the megaphone truck from "The Day Tokyo-3 stood still, and progress to footage of Instrumentality and the deployment of the MP Evas.)

WAITING
To cut out the deadwood
WAITING
To clean up the city
WAITING
To follow the worms
WAITING
To put on a black shirt
WAITING
To weed out the weaklings
WAITING
To smash in their windows and kick in their doors
WAITING
For Instrumentality to strengthen the strain
WAITING
To follow the worms
WAITING
To shatter their spirits and alter their egos
WAITING
To exterminate all inferior lifeforms
WAITING

To follow the worms

Would you like to see the rising sun rule again
My friend

(Here, a patriotic image of a Japanese Imperial flag with rays extending from the sun displays on the screen.)

All you have to do is follow the worms!

(The Japanese flag suddenly transforms into the NERV crossed hammers flag as the Rising Sun's rays bleed.)

Would you like to send our other brothers home again, my friend

(Rapidly display slides of all the Angels, lingering on Kaworu. Suddenly display the infamous image of the dead, maggot-infested Asuka corpse with the next line.)

All you need to do is follow the worms!

(The guitar sequence accompanies footage of Asuka battling the MP Evas and losing horrifically. I leave it to the editor to put this together artistically. At the end of the song, Shinji somehow breaks free of his chains and takes over the microphone. No AMV for "Stop" is necessary.)

STOP!
I wanna go home
Take off this uniform
And leave the show
But I'm waiting in this hell
Because I have to know
Have I been guilty all this time?

Over the weekend, I got myself a new pair of glasses for the Shinji/Gendo outfit. They're amber driving-style glasses, which hopefully should be moar accurate.

Last night, I had another twinge of angst that this might not get done in time for 2015. Yes, five years is a long way away, but this'll take a lot of planning and other things to get done. I'm seriously looking at Midwestern tribute band Think Floyd for help.

If you got competent musicians together I'd imagine learning the material would be simple enough. Musically The Wall is very good but it's not something overly complex like say performing Scenes From A Memory would be.

Good to see you getting back into this, if you can manage to pull this off you will go down in otaku history! Though I got to agree with jcmoorehead on the fact that the music will be the easy part of it was the lyrics and the narrative the carried it (well the editing of the already existing footage might be a bit easier) so the part that may need some planing is the new footage stuff..... hmmmmmmm, have you thought about using flash to animate the "puppets"? Using that should make giving them that stilted awkward movement a bit easier on you.

I'm looking into Anime Studio 6 for some of the animation.

EDIT: Having perused Think Floyd USA's webpage, I have a funny feeling that contacting them may not be a good idea, mostly because I don't think they'd appreciate it if I asked for the lead vocals.

But what do you guys think? I don't know any musicians in my hometown, that's for sure.

That works too, save up them pennies (or, eh-hem, "find" it out amongst the intertudez) and start experimenting with it and once you get comfortable with it try coming up with a work in progress storyboards and try to get some test scenes done that match it.

Edit: I guess it can't hurt to try but if they're a no go..... any bodyout here who's got some music talent that can do a reasonable Floyd impersonation?
