Awesome, I guess that means we'll get trailer number 3 sometime soon. Mari looks pretty tired (and or moe) in that pic.... Wonder if that means anything. >_>

Hah, the thought of Rei drinking soda in pic #2, especially while wearing her plugsuit of all things is funny.

either Mari is "zoning out" there or they're trying to make her look more close to contemporary anime standards

My guess is something bad is happening to her in the actual scene based on how tired/spaced out she seems to be. Maybe it's related to how she looked in pain in that shot of her in Eva-05. /Blatant Speculation

But who knows.

Nah.

Mari's facial expression is just that look Anno loves to do in his animation.
It's one of those moments where a character looks away from whoever they're talking to and says that one line of dialogue out loud that is the most important line of the scene.

Example: In 1.0, standing in front of Lilith. Shinji looks away from Misato: "I'll pilot it. One more time."
OR
Shinji cries in front of Rei. Rei looks away "Sorry. I don't know what to do at times like these."

Here it could very well be: Shinji: "You're plug suit is interesting." Mari: "I don't like the diapers".

And you know, given the body of water in the background, I think maybe she's around Kaji's melon patch. (I could have sworn Kaji has a lake behind him there this time around.)

Is Rei growing up all of a sudden or is that just nutzoidery on part of the artist? Like Shojo-Asuka and Shojo-Misato?

P.S. I didn't notice there was water in Mari's BG shot. I wonder...in NGE Rei is commonly put with the moon. Asuka is the sun. What could Mari be (if there is one)? The ocean? Giant pink firey crosses? Birds?

Mari just looks pensive/tired rather than utterly crushed. Now circles 'round the eyes, no head hung, no look of bleak despair..

Maybe the picture is from the scene where Mari will give Shinji the "If you are to hard on yourself, you won't have any fun." speech. And if so, the picture makes it look like she is speaking from experience.

Or maybe she has just been introduced to her comrades:

Misato:"And these are your fellow saviors of the world!"
Asuka:*bitch,bitch,bitch*
Shinji:*mope,mope,mope*
Rei:*stare,stare,stare*
