UK uses PAL, Japan uses NTSC...

I believe in the director of Eva 1.11.

Can't speak for anyone else, but that has never been an issue for me in the DVD era (VHS on the other hand...), and I buy R1, R2E and R2J discs. A multi-regional player is pretty useless without automatic "conversion" or what you want to call it.

From EML:
Yup, the Eva Rebuild 1 movie is getting a Taiwanese release (R3TW) by
Proware, who have the Eva TV & EoE movies license (Eva TV with DTS track).
http://www.prowaremedia.com.tw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10459

R3TW releases are cheaper than R2 Japanese, so if you can wait, want to save
money & get Japanese quality (but don't need a translation), Proware's
release is worth waiting for.

AFA R1, I have a hunch Funimation might have the license. Be interesting if
all releases across the 3 regions are scheduled close to each other.

1. Aren't Funimation the guys who put rock scores or sing alongs with all their releases or is that someone else.

2. Do Japanese do English subtitles. Even subpar English subtitles because that Super Eva Edition does look enticing but what would be the point of having all that if I have no fucking clue what it would say.

3. Sadly a Region 1 release is probably going to be bare bones with only trailers for other "U.S. Butchered" Anime Releases! Apparently all Japanese are from Texas and British Columbia at heart.

P.S. Checked for curiosity and Super Eva 1.0 DVD is on Amazon Japan.

If I open a DVD with VLC I should be able to get around DVD Regions right?

If so I might have to eat Ramen for two weeks so I can get this sick Eva DVD.

All you do is go into control panel and change your PC's region to Japan.

And thank the Lord for friends. Too bad I won't be able to get the special edition, but at least I'll get the normal DVD.

You can usually only change your region a certain number of times and you'll be stuck with it, even after you reformat.

If it doesn't come with subtitles, we can still use the fansubs on the official DVD with a little time adjustment.

For the most part, R2 anime does NOT come with subtitles. (For instance, Renewal did not).

However, Rebuild 1.0 might be different, seeing as it was translated for that Festival.

Anyway, am I wrong to assume that several years from now, all 4 Rebuild movies will be released in some super duper Whoring of Gainax(*Khara) boxset??

@ NAveryW: Do computer DVD Players have the option of Region 0 or regionless, or is some tweaking around needed to do that?

You can buy region free DVD players, but you can't change the region of existing players. You can, however, rip the DVD, demux it, and burn it to a regionless DVD-R.

If you are wondering if you have a region free player, or what to buy, click here. This site breaks down players by brand and model number, and gives you the instructions on how to make them region free.

EDIT: Apparently some of the links take you to the site's store, so be careful. However, there are legitimate unlocking codes on here, too.
