Re: Everything is Rockin'! [RML Thread 4]
Yestarday some friends from university organized a small surprise party for my birthday, we ate some good old fashioned local pizza (it's actually called "roman pinsa" and it's a lighter version, shaped as a rectangle served on a wooden pan) and spent a few hours together before the exams. It was cool.

Last night I made the final payment on the car I bought 3 years ago. As soon as my bank gets it to the credit union, I will officially own my car. That's also $150 I won't have to pay every month anymore, which is a huge load off my back since it was my single largest monthly bill.

Cool! What car did you buy? I have an old Y10 (it' from 1992) and I payed it €400 but I was the happiest man on earth that day.
Today my mother gave me a free cinema ticket, Monday I'm going to see Silence after the first exam of the year. If it goes well it's a well earned prize, if doesn't there's nothing better than a good film to free your mind.

2002 Ford Crown Victoria. Paid about $4,000 for it altogether. It was a great deal because the car was (and still is) in great shape. It's also the LX model, meaning it has a bunch of extra luxury features like a 6-disc CD player.

A small thing, but still... It seems that Tumblr have finally, after at least fifteen months (six months since I reported it), sorted the incorrect IPv6 configuration that prevented my me from seeing some of their material.

Finally got the cash payment from a client with 10 computer units I fixed, but that will also be the final payment I'll get from her because the last job she sent an underling to deal with me, then delayed payment because she was fucking busy or something, and I hate that.
Now figuring out whether I should save it or replace the cramped computer "desk" with a real big wide one because I'm getting sick of the clutter.

After struggling for, like, a year to get the next chapter of Crying Man off the ground, today I finally sat down and gave it wings. The rest should fall into place now. I'm so glad that particular case of writer's block seems to have resolved itself. Ugh.

A prequel story about Misato's dad. You can access more details via my sig links.
And thanks BobBQ! Didn't know you were struggling too. Hope it gets better... but creative pursuits will always be a long series of ups and downs, won't they?

Two job interviews this week, my first since graduation. Both are at game companies. The first one's a C++-focused technical interview over the phone with a pretty big company that's making me sign an NDA beforehand, and that's coming up on Wednesday, so I'm reviewing my C++ hardcore. Then on Friday, I'll be interviewing in-person with a much smaller company in the city.

Good luck Monk Ed, I hope you get to chose between them.

Had to do a group presentation today on legal ethics and professionalism, with my part specifically about deadlines and the many terrible excuses that will not amuse judges. To illustrate the point I used a clip from The Blues Brothers, and introduced it as "a demonstration by my distant colleagues the late Carrie Fischer and my spirit animal John Belushi."

Re: Everything is Rockin'! [RML Thread 4]
An introductory phone interview I had today with Wargaming.net went well. I had no idea how to prepare based on what I was told about it beforehand and it wound up being considerably more technical than I was expecting but I knew the answer to every question -- things like, "What's the difference between a class and a struct in C++", "Name 3 Standard Template Library container classes", "Is the dot product of two vectors a scalar, vector, or matrix?", and "What is the average access time of a hash map?"
Odds seem good that I'll make it to the next round. In the meantime I'm still waiting on another company whose interview process I finished recently to get back to me with either an offer or a rejection. (I signed an NDA with them which legally forbids me from disclosing who they are.) If it turns out to be an offer, I'll be in a very good-problem-to-have situation of trying to hurry through Wargaming's process before the offer from this other company dries up.
