Rei helped Shinji beat Kaworu
When the fight between Shinji and Kaworu, Shinji in Unit 01 couldn't even touch Kaworu b/c his AT Field was so damn strong. But toward the end, Rei shows up. I suspect, aside from stabbing Unit 02 in the face, Rei was the reason Shinji was able to grab and crush Kaworu into a nice medley of bones, flesh, and blood, since she busted out her AT Field.
Any proof of this being or not being true?
BTW, I did a search for this. I'm sure it was discussed already, but I can't find the thread.

Hmmm . . . that is an interesting dilemma. Though, I think the shock of seeing Lilith surely didn't help Kaworu's AT Field.

Supposedly he didn't know it wasn't Adam there, but I think SEELE told him about Lilith being there in the DC version.
Bet Rei was probably like "Kaworu's pretty annoying I think I'll help Shinji kill him."

??: "And Adam, the progenitor of the Angels who are the true successors from the lost white moon."
??: "His salvaged soul exists only within you."
KEEL: "However, his resurrected body already exists within Ikari."
Kaworu knew exactly where Adam was.

Somebody had to be generating that second AT Field
Misato:
What's the situation?
HYUGA:
It's an AT Field!
AOBA:
The same kind of AT Field that we saw earlier
has developed near the barrier around Terminal Dogma!
IBUKI:
It's entering the barrier!
Misato:
It can't be! Another Angel?!

I'm not sure how breaking the barrier helped Shinji win. Had Kaworu wanted to he could have ended it before Rei did that. Instead he sat there procrastinating waiting for something to happen. Almost seems like he wanted someone to make the choice for him.
Oh, but God forbid any of these theories have any validity! After all, we are just brainwashing innocent people with Reichu's fanclub propaganda!--Trigger's Elysium sarcasm for the masses!

Couldn't it have been both? I don't see why "Kaworu wanted to die" and "Rei ripped down the AT Field" have to be exclusive. Kaworu did seem to be interested in helping Rei come to terms with her true nature, and he seems pleased once he notices Rei and that she's starting to manifest her power.

Ultimately, I think that Kaworu does "want Shinji to stop him"....but its sort of like a Salmon fighting the urge to swim upstream.
Kaworu feels compelled to return to Adam, but he's kind of debating it internally and only MAKES the choice to accept his death and die so that the humans can live, after Shinji beats Eva-02.
I mean all the way up to the point when he goes "wait....this isn't Ada--...Lilith?!", Kaworu was still overtly wrestling with what he was doing i.e. "should what came from Adam return to Adam...even though it would destroy Mankind?"
So I don't really see much of a continuity error or anything in "Kaworu's motivations": he himself was kind of debating what to do up until Eva-01 beats Eva-02.

Can you really call it a victory if the other person throws the fight? Rei only had the chance to help Shinji because Kaworu wasn't making a move. He had won but he threw it at the last second.
