Fun fact: in Japanese, メアリー ("Mearii") is a more typical translation of "Mary", but biblical Mary, as in the Magdalene, is マリア ("Maria"). So he's not calling her Maria of Iscariot, he's calling her Mary Iscariot. Man's got some Rock Lee wrist weights on, cuz those are some heavy hands of symbolism.

Mari was a fellow student or colleague with Gendo - her dialogue in Japanese refers to her being older/superior to him quite bluntly. Also interesting take on Fuyutski's nickname to her, but he''s 100% calling her Mari, and mentions he hasn't called her "Maria" in a long time (as she musn't be fully Japanese perhaps, judging by her appearance). The whole Iscariot deal is because she used to originally be with them/Nerv but is now true to Willie, betraying her past bonds.

Asuka and Rei are different clones for various reasons, but their personalities are quite different due to their "person" of origin, or how they were raised - not due to the actually cloning process (outside of Rei's origin).

As for GNCGR, she must exist from the new "Black" Lillith that Nerv created being combined with Rei 2 who has been chilling in 01 the whole time. Or whichever eva she was left in -- I'm a little hazy on this. Otherwise I don't see why it would be Rei in any form. I just don't follow yet how they exactly made Black Lillith (maybe with the head of the og Lillith?)
Also to note, there is no GNK either.

**edit** Black Lillith has something crucial to do with Misato's dad. Couldn't tell much more though.

I think I'm gonna go fuck off again. I remember why I didn't stick around....all this endless nonstop theorizing about this or that tiny little detail, especially from people that are CONVINCED they're "right".....and 99.99% of them haven't even seen the movie yet!

You'd think by now people would have just accepted that Evangelion is surrealism and has been since day one. There is no plan. They literally make it up as they go. It's never all going to "fit" or make perfect sense. Just enjoy it...just go with it....stop trying to force it into a box it'll never fit in!

Don't forget to buy or "acquire" the full soundtrack when it comes out....it's baller!!

Yeah, some people really do be incredibly stuck-up to expect their outcome/ a movie on the levels of EOE when it's clear the Rebuilds are a fun little meta/revisiting exercise for Anno. Sometimes you just want to go all out and create whatever the fuck you want and have fun with it, even if people will be disappointed and compare it to something you made years, years ago. That is also a step towards moving on, and yeah, it's clear that Anno is moving on.

Asuka: Totally a clone, but perhaps the most "refined" of them. They make a point to show other (child) Asuka clones failing in battle simulations and alluding to "retiring" them for lack of a better word.
