It was stunning to see even something big as Skyrim in this new console/handheld hybrid, now called Switch after many months of it codenamed NX. Asides that it's now using nVidia's Tegra technology, that its controller looks revolutionary enough to allow multiplayer, a large number of heavyweight developers and studios have signed up.

I shouldn't have watched the trailer, now I want one really really bad. And I have to wait until March now.

This looks awesome. Now if they can deliver on the software front as well, I see a very bright future for Switch.

Wow! Sign me up for one of these. I really love that it has a matte finish and uses game carts instead of disks.
Someday I hope that we'll be reunited if that is what's destined to be. Perhaps we'll discover that elusive bible. And then we will finally be free!

Popped in here right after watching the promo video cold because I didn't want my expectation set one way or another and am glad to see others having my same reactions.
That we all sound like frickin' marketing plants is only good for Nintendo.

Re: Nintendo Switch
Well, it seems they really thought it through, this time.
Grasshopper, From Software, Squenix, Atlus... Yeah. Very good. The only remaining stumbling blocks now might be a too high price point, or that it somehow doesn't work as seamlessly as advertised.

Re: Nintendo Switch
I can't believe I'm legit excite for this. I've imagined something like this every now and then since the GamePad led me to dream of it. This would totally fit my impending lifestyle as a train-hopper going and coming from the city on workdays; a portable console with the power of a last-generation stay-at-home console is right up my alley.
Nintendo found their niche. This is what the Wii U should have been, but obviously the tech wasn't there yet. This is how you find a way to compete with the high-powered consoles without going the high-powered route, because now the sacrifice of power is actually worth something, you get something back for it, and the success of the mobile space shows why it works: Consumers are willing to sacrifice raw power for convenience. I know I am; that's exactly the tradeoff I make with my laptop when I use it for gaming.
My only remaining concern, which is indeed a mild one, is that I'm not a fan of staggered analog sticks, but I understand why they did it and I think it much better matches how Nintendo games actually use their controllers. Besides, the way you can freely detach those control-halves, they'll probably release ones with the stick and buttons swapped, and that's assuming you can't just attach it backwards if you wanted.

Re: Nintendo Switch
Somebody just came up with imaginative ways to create special controllers for specific games.
The way I see it, Ninty really have to catch up and take advantage of many possibilities for Switch, because we've seen in the last few years that smartphones and tablets have challenged and even beaten handhelds.

Re: Nintendo Switch
More details: http://www.popsci.com/nintendo-switch-w ... nx-details Not all of it interesting, but this stood out to me:
This is a pretty big shift (or even... a switch... shall we say... ) -- it makes the Switch the first (non-redesign) Nintendo product since the N64 to lack backwards compatibility. But seeing as just about nobody bought the Wii U anyway, and those who did recently or were thinking of it are probably happy to learn that their recent/near-future purchase won't be rendered obsolete by this new console, I don't think many people will care. If anything, I see reasons to be excited about this: Because the Switch is a single-screen system, games that do get re-released for it will have to be reconfigured for that, thereby eliminating the shoehorned GamePad gimmickry that drove many gamers away from the games that did it (myself included, as someone for whom comfort in gaming is paramount).
Can you just imagine Star Fox Zero reconfigured to actually be playable? And I thought that game (or at least its demo) was surprisingly fun even with the constant reticle-recentering.
According to Desctructoid, the console will not support Nintendo Wii U game disks nor Nintendo 3DS game cartridges. Those looking to play their old favorite games may have to re-purchase. Nintendo says there is a possibility that old games will be released for the Switch once again on the company's e-Shop as digital purchases.

Re: Nintendo Switch
I'm a bit late in sharing my opinion of the Switch, but I'm really excited for it too. This thing is basically the dream of every '90s gamer kid made a reality, which is to be able to just take your console games with you when you travel, no remote play or streaming or cross-play. Just pick your home console up and take it with you, and play wherever. I was also pleasantly surprised to see the Skyrim remaster running on it, as well as the list of third-party developers (I hope they actually pan out this time). The price, launch titles, and release date are supposed to be announced January 12th, so I'll wait until then to decide when I'll buy it. The only way I'll pre-order it is if they don't region-lock it.

Re: Nintendo Switch
Whether or not I buy this depends on what games they port over from the WiiU. If we get Splatoon and Bayonetta 2 on there then I'm all in. If not, I'm not sure I want to buy two new consoles.

Re: Nintendo Switch
New info from the presentation:
- MSRP $300.
- Releasing March 3 of this year.
- Online play will eventually be charged for, starting next autumn, but will be free until then.
- Controller has a "Capture" button that seems like an equivalent of Sony's "Share" button.
- Screen has capacitive touch.
- Estimated battery life varies by game but is expected to range from 2.5 to 6 hours.
- Skyrim confirmed, ending that long awkward period where it was not actually a confirmed title for the system.
- Splatoon 2, Xenoblade 2, Super Mario Odyssey.
- Breath of the Wild is a launch title.

I thought it would be 250, max...
Breath of the Wild doesn't look as sexy as I want it to look. Seems like Switch isn't powerful enough to support such a vast Open World game.
Mario Odyssey is fascinating. Never thought, Mario would go GTA. But that's Mario for you. I'm sure, it'll be great fun. Also, the idea to utilize his cap for moves is a genius one.
In another news, there's a new project with Travis from No More Heroes, Squenix' Bravely Default team works on a game, and a new Shin Megami Tensei from Atlus is also coming.
They've got a strong line-up, I must say.

The conference was at 5 AM in Europe.
Anyway I already knew I'll buy anyway but I'm happy for what I've seen. Zelda looks amazing and Mario too. I know Pokémon is coming too and while the price is higher than I wanted it's not so much higher. There are some negatives like the fact that you have to pay to play online and Nintendo has such a terrible online system on both 3DS and WiiU, plus a NES game for free ( ) as a bonus is a joke.

Re: Nintendo Switch
Planing to have one by the end of the year after that lineup(RPGS on Nintendo again!!!!), this has the potential to be the best Nintendo home console since the SNES.... Which is funny because it's also a handheld. But at $400 Canadian I can't get it at launch, hoping by the spring I'll have the means to get one, but worst comes to worst I'll have it in Nov/Dec.... I really want to play Zelda though.
I mean, predictability is the central attraction and the narrative hook that we've all come to expect from the Evangelion franchise. How come Anno can't realize this? Twice? - FreakyFilmFan4ever

Re: Nintendo Switch
Just read an article about the recent Switch event. Looks like Nintendo has already managed to screw this one up. Paid online that's so crappy you need a cell phone to communicate with other players? 32gb of storage on a 2017 game console? 720p max resolution on the portable screen? Yeah this may have been impressive if it was released 5 years ago, but it completely fails now. Looks like once again they're using outdated tech and charging a premium for it. For the love of Rei, Nintendo, just put a damn hard drive or 128gb minimum size flash memory in this thing. The controllers are once again hideously expensive ($70-$80). And to top it all off, the launch lineup is pathetic with the exception of a few games. I was ready to buy this thing day one when they released the first trailer, but now I'll probably wait about 2 years. Hype confirmed dead.

Re: Nintendo Switch
I'm not as put out as IronEvangelion, but I'm close. I'm still getting the Switch for Breath of the Wild because I'm just that big of a Zelda fan, but paid online alone had me seriously reconsidering what had previously seemed a done deal.
