I would have liked to see Toji die in that battle in the anime.
I have nothing against Toji. I just feel it probably would have had more of an impact.

To his credit, Shinji isn’t really addressed a whole lot after Ep. 19. He’s got the second half of Ep. 20 partially to himself, alongside a great deal of Ep. 24—but only supporting roles in the episodes in between. Considering how packed that whole arc is, I really don’t think addressing that guilt was needed—especially since Anno & co make it a point to have Shinji narrate the closing lines of Ep. 20 to reiterate how closed-off & guilty Shinji was (“I couldn’t do anything. I was just a kid” while Misato bawls her eyes out). IMO explicitly addressing Shinji’s fear of reestablishing contact with Toji/Kensuke/Hikari would just serve to underline something the audience would already understand—and the portion from Ep. 24 I quoted even showed that dichotomy in action; “Toji & Kensuke lost their homes near here and left… I don’t wanna see Ayanami/Asuka/Misato even though they’re RIGHT HERE”. Throwing in explicit references to “I want to see Toji again but it’d be awkward” prior to Ep. 24 would come off as forced.

 Or could take different tact and say that Shinji just didn't think about Toji after that.

I’ll admit that the series could probably have done a better job handling the Toji thing post-Bardiel, but I don’t think Sadamoto’s answer was the right one.
Rebuild sorta i guess  SPOILER: Show
And Rebuild curves that whole issue completely, so I'm not sure if Anno was even able to come up with a better solution

It doesn't even need to contain humor. Imagine a poor animal connected with various wires and tubes. Add dramatic music, and you have a scene least emotional like Tōji's.

Honestly, despite the fact I enjoy bashing mango it was really, really good manga for long time. It only suffered in comparison to far superior animu version... I really love Sadamoto's art (I would've paid to see original show consistently animated in his CD style etc.) for starters...

Anyway, the moment I abandonded the manga was when "ep 24" ended. It was so fucked up, whole manga Kaworu thing is epic fail if we can forget lulzyness of certain moments.

So I've followed rest of the material "via nätet". But even with continuous stream of sillyness (Asuka strangling Shinji in psychofit instead of faptastic ickyness) NOTHING prepared me to the fact Gendo, not Misato, saves Shinji... with AT Field hand. I had heard of it but didn't believe it until I saw the scan. It's just, well... it kills neurons for chrissakes

"yay adam embryo superpowers"

Really, mango is one huge embarrasment

I get what you guys are all saying about the mangas crappiness. After I read the last officially realest english volume, I felt like ripping it up and setting it on fire.

Bah,"I will kill god and take his place" Gendo was awesome.

It's a different story, lighten up and enjoy it.

This.

He shuddered a bit, remembering the somewhat creepy level of detail Kaji had gone into, while rubbing a watermelon in a disturbingly sexual way.

Indeed, though I still don't like RoE 2 in the context of part 1.

Hey, I'm a Rei fangirl and I think manga=sucks, Rebuild=win. (Besides, Rei's personality along with the rest of the cast is different in either telling, so what's it matter?)

People ARE going to have different opinions regardless of the issue, so just agree to disagree and TOPIC.

Oh, and yes, that image of Gendo with AT Field Adam IS from the manga.

AuraTwilight: :sigh: Yeah, that's annoying when people complain about Rebuild being different, though I guess their problem is it's not so much Rebuild itself is different, but more that people just don't like certain changes in it.

Anyway. Toji and Eva-03: DISCUSS.
