S2 Works Re-Arranged

FORWARD: Below, is what I consider to be a sane representation of what is heard within the gargantuan s2 Works; Shiro Sagisu's complete recording sessions from both the original series as well as EOE. Listening to the set as presented proved nearly impossible, as pieces where ordered by their numerical IDs, by Sagisu, before Anno came along and titled them. After watching the original series closely, I have built a chronological listening experience of what was heard within the series, with a few outtakes that I felt could have fit within a few select scenes. To prove the worth of the songwriting and Anno's song placement within the series, you can actually hear the story progress as you move through the arcs (each filling one disc). To sum this up, I feel fairly confident that this is the best listening experience possible using the materials provided. Enjoy.

I don't get it.

You see, this is why I need mod powers, you guys. This thread would be locked by now. But oh no, we have to wait for Ursus to come by and do it instead.

I don't get it either. Is this listing a re-naming of the songs from S2 Works? According to the EvaWiki's article the original S2 works only had cut names and titles like the ones shown here. I guess it's a fan arrangement, but it would have been nice if there was actual information in the opening post.

Not impressed?

Well, this was just my own fan mix of how I would like S2 works to play out. I figured it was self explanatory. Thought I would share it with the world. Note, not every cue is included, just most of the ones in the show and a few I thought could fit in there.

Take it or leave it. smh

Thanks for clearing that up.

I don't have a copy of S2 works, so I can't listen to it or compare it with your arrangement. It looks like a fine arrangement. Also, are the images you included scans from the S2 collection boxart or custom cover art?

Oh no I just didn't know what S2 Works was so it was a bit confusing.

Eh, figured it was common terminology around here. This site is called EvaGEEKS you know.

You should give it a shot if you have the patience for it. ;)

Death does include the beginning of EOE, so it makes sense to include the one track that were featured in that included segment, yes? I'm pretty sure just False Regeneration was included.

That's the funny thing. The album just called "Death" has one of the 26' songs that plays after Sandbox Rising. It also has the kitchen scene. Pretty sweet to put them in the EoE playlist and listen to the whole movie.

* Edit made to discs 3 & 4. Weaving a Story II has been moved to the start of disc 4, with disc 3 ending on The Beast II (the scene where Eva-01 eats the angel). Descent and Bitter End arcs (the last two) begin on the Weaving a Story episodes anyways.

Decent arrangement and this has been discussed in the past (I recall Reichu listing the tracks from S2 and also mentioning how jumbled the order was, and something about how she thought she might take a crack at it some time).

But why the rhythm only version of Thanatos and Rei III in the descent arc? That version of Thanatos was from the elevator scene in EoE, and Rei III came at the end of EoE. Just curious. The series version of Thanatos would be much better alone there, since it was the only one played in the series (on 3 separate occasions, I think).

If you read the intro at the top, I stated that I tried to insert a few alternate takes and ommited tracks into the mix. Reichu did do a mix too, but the site where it was hosted cut off the second half of the listing, so I figured I would do it myself and add in more tracks from the S2 Works.

The full form Thanatos plays here right before Shinji has his battle with Zeruel (disc 3, 24). In the show, it does play again (the same version) before Rei's death, though I tracked in the more minimal Rhythm version (disc 4, 20). This version should not be confused with Substitute Invasion from EOE (disc 6, 5), those are two seperate recordings of the same theme. Rei III does not play anywhere in the show or the film, but I felt it sat at a good place after Rei's death in the show (disc 4, 21) as her finale.

Again, this was not meant to be a 100% accurate list of what plays in the show, but an alternate way to take in the S2 Works, as a whole, in a sitting.

I think I nearly had a full mash-up of S2 Works prepared at one point, but I misplaced the playlist somewhere along the way. Maybe it's on a backup CD-R somewhere, maybe it got deleted by accident, who knows. I never got the urge to attempt confirmation one way or the other, despite getting a few requests.

Hopefully, darkorb's managed to take the onus off me. [Though without more detailed track information, I think people are going to have needless trouble recreating the playlist order.] Was this inspired by my ancient web pages, BTW? (EDIT: Looks like it.) I made those so long ago that I can't remember why I never finished posting the rest of the listing.

I oughta put together my MP3s of this sometime and give it a listen, looks cool. :asuka_thumbsup:

(I swear if S2 Works would be re-released I'd totally buy it. And there was a place I used to live buy that had a legit copy but I didn't have enough money at the time to get it... X_x I have so much Eva merchandise anyway...)

If you're into Shiro Sagisu or the score in general, it's a good listen. :) I like the extened EOE quite a bit, I think "Everything You've Ever Dreamed" ends it on a (EDIT: MORBIDLY DEPRESSING) note.

Did she promise you the world and did that

Make it so you hearts will never beat
Squeeze the very last and dying breath from
Everything you've ever dreamed
