Gundam episode 23
The character development turns out to be as good as promised, so that is what keeps me watching. The fights are getting quite boring and repetitive with the time. Especially as everything Zeon is exploding as soon as the Gundam hits it. No matter where or how bad it is shot... kind of annoying.
Speeking of annoying things - these kids, OMG, I hate those kids...
But I am starting to really like Brighto-san and Sayla and I miss Char.

It's a thing in UC universe. If its a mobile suit and takes more than a glancing shot, but isn't a prototype, it will explode.

Same here. They're slightly more tolerable in the english dub... but only slightly.

...and since we're talking about Gundam, incoming obligatory Ramba Ral image!

What I'll be next week if my read of the preview is right, and Ange is to be singing the jailhouse blues.

Only it's not the blues, it's Japan, thus = Japanese pop ballad.

A thought also occurred to me: instead of saving the place or doing anything about societal prejudice, isn't it more likely she'll simply throw open the gates and let the DRAGONs have 'em?

Following Gus Hanson's mention the other day, I dug out and rewatched the Burn-UP W OVA; and yes, it's silly, has plenty of QUALITY moments and noodle people -- but it takes itself just as seriously as it needs to, and is just plain fun to watch. And, best of all, there's not a high-school in sight (even when Rio is trying to hawk her used knickers to pay off her debts).

Ah, those long lost days when anime was about BIG girls and guns.

Also watched a few more episodes of Mahou Katawa Shoujo (YuYuYu), which is pretty much the antithesis of the previous in all respects. Apart from the fact that power-up Togo seems to be very big for her age.

Yeas, Ramba Ral was a good "villain"! I'm glad I'm not the only one who wishes they had dropped off those kids when the other refugees left the White Base. The girl is the worst.

Oh, ok then I will have to endure it...
What also seems to bee a thing: slapping. But now that

is dead, the slapping rate on the white base may decrease, I guess.

This problem is far more severe in Gundam Wing, but it's not like I'm recommending that you watch it anyway.

I'm not even sure if I like it enough to keep watching the series of the other timelines as well. But if I decide to do so - why not Gundam Wing?

There are better Gundam series out there. If you are a fujoshi who likes stock footage you may enjoy it though.

No and no. ;)

Anyway, I had a lot of freetime this week, so I finished Gundam 0079 yesterday evening / night.
I liked it more and more as the story progressed and I definitely became a Char - groupie... :chuckles: One big part of the Char-effect is his voice actor. That's something I usually don't pay much attention to, but in this case, I even looked up his name and was relieved to read that he keeps being Char in Zeta.
I will never be a big fan of Amuro, though. In the very beginning we saw him have some emotional troubles with fighting and killing but overall, he is just too "good" for my taste. I'm not really into the morally impeccable chosen one - type...
Also: Newtypes? What the hell? As I knew absolutely nothing about Gundam before I started watching, I never expected it to have kind of a supernatural story element. I'm not sure if I like that. (Lala (horrible name) reminds me of Anthy, by the way. On a very superficial level, of course.)
Last but not least: I was totally confused when Mirai was suddenly shown to have a crush on that tall blonde leutnant. I always assumed that Mirai and Brighto-san were supposed to be a couple from early on. That felt totally out of place.

Well, long story short: I started Gundam Z. :D
Still don't know why, I don't even like mechas / robots / silly looking big dolls...

The next stage in human evolution, with added psychic powers -- a common motif in mid 20th century science fiction; here being metaphor for the generation gap between the wartime generation and the young people growing up in much more prosperous and settled times.

Yes, I understand what a Newtype is supposed to be. All I wanted to express was my surprise that it occured in Gundam, that's all. But thanks for the info anyway. ^_^

Righto, finished Fate/Zero, I have no idea what the hell happened, and I really don't have any interest in finding out.

Gunna start watching Mushi-shi once I finish a project I'm currently working on.

I've generally heard good things about Fate/Zero, so I'd be interested to hear what you didn't like about it.

Man, this series is so hyped, but I cannot find any reason to watch it, besides good animation quality. I'm just not interested in the premise. At all.

View Original PostFazmotron wrote:Gunna start watching Mushi-shi once I finish a project I'm currently working on.

Don't watch too many Episodes at once. Mushi-shi works best when watching one Episode per week. And that Episode will be the most relaxing thing you have seen in Anime. This series is one of the few that does slow pacing the right way.

I've watched Aoi Bungaku. This was pretty cool. It's awesome to see some actual Japanese literature being animated for once. And they did a pretty competent job with it. No longer Human was a very interesting watch, sometime I'd like to read the real thing. Sakura was an unexpected turn into grotesque territory, but I loved how different it was and it had great comedy that wasn't shallow. I loved Kokoro, because I could very much relate to the character; and it got even more awesome when the second Episode came around to jumble the story up tremendously. Really made me think about subjective perception in general. Run, Melos was also very well done; I really liked how the roles shifted constantly. but a little too melodramatic for my taste. The last two Episodes weren't as thought provoking for me personally, but they shifted the already extremely beautiful visuals into high gear and created some intense moments.

So yes, overall a great little gem. Go watch it.

Currently, about halfway through Samurai Flamenco. As Ornette said, it's... weird.

I'm surprised you made it that far. I died from boredom after the first episode.
Awesomely Shitty

-the only English language novel actually being developed in parallel to its Japanese version involving a pan-human Soviet in a galactic struggle to survive and to export the communist utopia/revolution to all the down trodden alien class and race- one of the premise being that Khrushchev remains and has abandoned Lysenko stupidity

Weird in a good, or in a bad way?
IMHO, It definitely is weird... I didn't make it past Episode four, although the character designs are nice to look at.

Not sure how subtle it was supposed to be, sometimes it'll purposely set itself up just to have something stupid happen. The enemies that appear start from random street thugs to James Bond villians in a blink of an eye, and everyone thinks it's totally normal.

The first part isn't that weird at all, but before the midway point, the show suddenly either doesn't know what it wants to be, stops making any sense, or it was a huge troll job, which is still entirely possible.
