Armorless Eva Pic: Fake or Real?

A long time lurker, first time poster here. I finally have something to contribute...

I came across this recently via a friend. I haven't seen it on the net on in a magazine before so I don't know where it comes from. Anyone seen it before? It's a pretty bad scan of a pretty awesome looking pic.

As an naked eva expert, the head looks more like the MP evas.
Maybe it's an official card or something like that, but the artist has never participated on the series.

The most official naked eva pictures are the ones from sadamoto's manga, and here it is a little collage of images:

Nevertheless, I don't know what the Manga has to do will the series. That pic doesnt look anything like eva01. There's no core. There's no mouth, and none of the body marking corespond to anything seen in the series. Looks more like eva in a spiderman outfit.

By expert, he means he is quite adept at drawing them, and he is. However if I were to give anyone the title of "Naked Eva Expert", it would be going to Reichu. I don't even have to explain. Her naked Eva infamy spreads to Japan and back from what I've heard.

Actually, Sadamoto's occassional unarmored and slightly unarmored Eva unit are indeed very close to the production designs found in the various books, such as the NewType 100% collection.

As for this image, if my long obsession and huge image collection has any bearing on this, I would have to say that if this IS an official piece, its very rare. I highly doubt this is an official piece, if anything, I suspect this is some sort of fan made wall scroll design. Some of the design and proportions are rather distorted, beyond what I would expect from "official" work.

That picture is one of the fugliest damn things I have EVER seen. "What happens when EVA-01 and E.T. have an illegitimate love child?"

I have issues with 'em. It is quite amusing how he fluctuates between:

- Core and mouth
- No core, no mouth

And there are those couple of drawings where there is no mouth, but the teeth are SORT OF showing. I mean, WTF?

Sadamoto did base the skin patterns on a set of drawings Yamashita did, but it is hard to reconsile them with anything we see in the show. Then again, when it comes to the details of what the Evas look like beneath the armor, the show is not even consistent with itself.

In developing my own style for depicting them, I've incorporated the elements that I like and discarded whatever doesn't work for me. Ultimately, the intent is to come up with as convincing and dynamic a living entity as possible, something that would be biologically real and complete when stripped down to her true form. (Bizarrely enough, this is a continuation, in spirit, of my old hobby of paleontological restoration...) Sadamoto's naked EVA-01 just doesn't do it for me. Feels very phony.

If I recall correctly, someone from ANF (Wigs, Sharp,???) reported from their time in Japan an encounter with someone who spoke of a website of naked Evas. Its not certain, but an uncanny similiarity to your Eva art page.

I believe Sharp was just referring to some blokes he met at a local anime con who had apparently seen it. Not Japanese.

They happen to be very sexy monsters, I might add. If you are going to draw naked Evas, you might as well let them express their sexuality. Especially if you are writing a story in which they, in fact, DO.

You clearly need to expose yourself to those things in the world that are TRULY disturbing, as opposed to just odd and silly. For a starter course, turn off Google's safe search and look up "bifurcated penis modification".

Something can be erotic without being pornographic. The difference, as I understand it, is one of degree and explicitness. In none of the drawings online (well, except one not accessible from my main site) are they engaging in lesbian sex. Close physical contact needn't be sexual in nature.

Anyway, comething about the Eva logo in that E.T. penis-head-thingamajig looks a little off. If it's official, one wonders why the only time any of us have ever seen it was courtesy of a scan.
