I think we analyse in the same way. The only difference is that you seem to cut the author out of the process.

Primarily this is because we none of us have Anno to hand to answer all our questions - we have Anno's statement of intent, which does help elucidate what's going on here


and we have his words to the effect that the show is a puzzle for us to solve.

So the work has to stand on its own two feet, for us to analyse for what it has to tell. The author has moved on.

(In this case we are dealing with a living author - lit crit goes on for the dead ones too - even of Wm Shakespeare, whose intent was to pack the house full and thereby earn a crust.)

I've told Reichu that about 14 million times, and she doesn't care. But seriously does anyone really want to even think about pre-cyborg Keel having sex with anything? Eww, espcially Misato's dad. (whom Reichu beleives is who Kaworu is cloned from.)

Why is Kaworu a clone of Misatos dad? If that was a case they should have had something that kind of hints at it like that whole sequence with Shinji telling Rei what a good mother she'd be. But Misato never actually interacts much with Kaworu beyond being suspicious of him. Where did Reichu get this information? Misatos dad is barely in the series. Is it just something that vaguely hints at something like Shinji acting embarrassed around Kaworu or the fifteen monoliths? Or is there something more here to suggest that?

No Reichu thinks that because the bottom half of Misato's father's face looks something like Kaworu, and because their was a contact expirament underway (possibly similar to the one that created Rei as a biproduct), and Misato's father was one of the scientists, Kaworu might be a partial clone of her father like Rei is of Yui. And the whole reason he was down there in Antarctica to begin with is....because Keel seduced him into it, and that's what caused Misato's parents marriage to break up. This is Reichu's theory in a nutshell. Don't ask me why Keel is apprently a homewrecker.
