It replaces the money you have in your wallet with sudden vacuum. That should have been the real Instrumentality—each individual gets turned into the amount of cash they personally possess, and the sum total gets sucked up into Gainax. The Instrumentality fails when Gainax gets busted for tax evasion, and it ends with Takeshi Sawamura strangling the accountant.
Then I'd just turn into a button and a Government "IOU" of $0.37 USD.
I don't know, Evangelion certainly didn't help my depression... But I could seriously attribute Evangelion to keeping me alive. When I first found Evangelion I was a happy-go-lucky traumatized kid that suddenly realized that puberty was setting in and that the world was full of hatred which only could succumb for the hatred I felt for myself.
Not much later I hit the rock bottom of my depression and was seriously thinking about killing myself. That's when I really got into Evangelion and seriously was the only reason I lived for a year or so...
Hey, I admit it, I was seriously only alive because of Evangelion and partially because I wanted to die in the coolest way possible... Being shot out of a huge cannon at a wall of cows, just to have them turn into pudding and drowning myself in lucious chocolate pudding...
