Overall, it replaced...hell, every series I've ever watched. But for me, several other still surpass it in certain aspects; Doraemon, Macross, the older Gundams, Top!, Bebop, Lain, list goes on...

NGE pretty much overran everything else in my life when I first watched it. I was making wallpapers, talking (ranting) about it with friends, posting in forums, and non-stop downloading. It's calmed down now, but I have no choice but to love NGE, because it got me back into anime and manga, after a 6-year break.

Eva didn't replace anything for me; it just shoved them aside to make room for itself.

That's an interesting turn of phrase...

You're an Aspie, too? I had no idea!

They're everywhere these days, aren't they? ;) (I was diagnosed over a decade ago.)

It goes both ways for me. NGE has corrupted me heavily, but I also bring a lot of myself to it. If that makes any sense.

Replace? Fill, rather. A big emptyness I had no idea I had. Its like:
- Hey! You can walk!
- ORLY? ... Yeah, I can!
And the other animes are like this:
- And thats not everything! You can run!
- ORLY? ... Yeah, I can!
:D
I hope I was clear enough.
 !!!HELL IS FUN!!!

Evangelion caused a man to think I was a priest at one time.

He happened to be one of those born-again Christians, and when he crossed my path I just dropped in a few of the convoluted Religious strands Eva contains, and then engaged him in a long conversation(Or rather, I lectured him and he listened, in awe)about the nature of Eve and Mankind's relation to the Heavenly beings.

:D

They're everywhere these days, aren't they?

All thanks to /b/.

I...think...I have asperberger's (but I don't know!), which would explain why I'm so freaking obessed about things I like to begin with. (I was mis-diagonsed with ADD in 4th grade (luckily a one time only thing), probably because of my LD in Math.)

What did Eva replace? Um...how about having a life and/or other anime&manga I enjoy? (Sad thing is, I'm half-serious.)

I've posted this before, but it may interest you - an indicative test from Prof. Baron-Cohen, who's a specialist in that sort of non-neurotypical manifestations at Cambridge:

http://glennrowe.net/BaronCohen/AutismSpectrumQuotient/AutismSpectrumQuotient.aspx

My own score is the highest I've seen amongst those scores I know, but in my day fancy diagnoses like that weren't sprinkled around the way they are now. I think NGE is a bit of an attractor for personalities like this, as all but one of the Aspies I know are or have been on this board. And for a condition that's supposed to affect men far more than women, surprisingly, most of them are female.

Um... Image You're thinking of /b/tardation. That's a totally different diagnosis.

There is much more to Asperger's (note spelling) than a predilection for unusual and intense interests.

Yeah, it's kind of like how HIV trangresses to AIDS. There was a short, informational discussion about this on there some time ago. :)

By the way, for cheap thrills, I took the test Tines linked to just now after I posted this, and got an even 36.

I'm not worried. That's one of the effects of having Ass/B/urgers, aka /B/Tardism or 4chan Disease.

replaced outlaw star as a favorite anime. then other anime replaced outlaw star and it fell down the list. elfen lied replaced my second favorite. many new ones replaced everything after that.

but i digress, evangelion also replaced some of my ideals. it made me want to pursue deep storylines and it also cemented my love for anime. made me want to learn german (id already wanted to learn Japanese). helped me make a Japanese friend. in a sense, it changed a portion of my life.
