Having been illuminated as to the written contents of that fanart, it's clear to me now that it's actually just some of the most inept Nazi propoganda I've ever seen. We shouldn't be offended by it. Rather, we should treat it as the absurd humor that it was never meant to be and have a good laugh over it.
Anyway, I can't really blame the guy. I understand that Japanese education on WWII is lackluster at best; solely covering the atomic bombings without providing any sense of context of what was happening in the wider world. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Sorry, ppl, but this ISN'T funny... or anything you should "get used to". I repeat, SOAP from HUMAN BODIES.
That's not "cool". Or sexy.
That's just what they wanted to do when they had "cool" uniforms designed for themselves. To get accepted as normal amongst the population/ to instill fear

It's hard to laugh when you know what those uniforms represent. But I agree a "man, what?" response, along with all that entails, is appropriate here. No sense getting bent out of shape over it.

Ah, some Rei! Exactly what I needed now! Luv the frilled dress.

Still, these Nazi pictures are highly disturbing! I'd ask to have them banned, but impairing freedom of speech is just what these bastards would do...
To each their own, I guess.
Sorry, I should know better than to overreact about ppls weird fetishes.
still, it IS disgusting. Can we agree to put such stuff in spoiler tags with a warning above it?
35 million people died, you know?
There are things that cross a line. And then, there's portraying anything related to these mass murderers as "cool."
That's telling the line to go fuck itself, raping its mother and sacrificing the resulting baby to Satan.

You're about 40 million too low there Kendrix. ~65 to 75 million people died in WWII depending on if you count deaths to things like forced famine.

@The Pictures: Fuck the Nazis and everything, but they know how to look stylish in a uniform. Germans as a whole have always had some good looking military dress uniforms.

Let's not get too crazy inflating numbers here. If you're talking about the camps the number's closer to 10-12 million. If you count the whole war (in Europe)...well, yeah, that's still Germany's fault and all, but it's a figure with a very different meaning.

@The Pictures: Fuck the Nazis and everything, but they know how to look stylish in a uniform. Germans as a whole have always had some good looking military dress uniforms.

That's why the rush to Nazi imagery is so disappointing. There are other German dress uniforms that are much cooler and don't have the baggage attached to them. C'mon, Asuka as an officer in the Luftwaffe? Who wouldn't drool over that?

I'm not. I'm also not talking about camps, I'm talking about things like war-famine as a result of the scorched-earth policy that was adopted on the Russian front, that directly lead to a bunch of civilians starving. China also had crap like that done to them.

70 million is total deaths as a result of military actions in WWII (counting the Pacific front and purges). So if we only want to focus on Nazi related deaths.

About 34 million people died on the Eastern front counting German deaths, of which 26 million was the USSR alone, about 5 million died on the Western front, and between the purges and all the other internment related deaths you've got another ~10 million. So the Nazis alone are responsible for almost 50 million deaths. The Japanese can only claim about ~25 million, of which ~20 million is from China.

Edit: Also despite the massive figures, in terms of percentages the totals deaths of WWII isn't that impressive.

The USSR lost the most in the war, and even at 26 million dead, it only lost like 14% of the total population. Which is still horrible, just not as extreme as one would think from an entire country being raped silly. Even military deaths never reached a 50% fatality ratio.

Total USSR Armed Forces - 34,477,000 | Killed - 10,700,000 (~31%)
Total German Armed Forces - 18,200,000 | Killed - 5,533,000 (~30%)
Total Japanese Armed Forces - 8,400,000 | Killed - 2,122,000 (~25%)
Those are the highest figures. Everyone else like GB and the US are at insanely low percentages. Like
Total US Armed Forces - 16,597,000 | Killed - 416,837 (~2.5%)
Total GB Armed Forces - 11,115,000 | Killed - 580,497 (~5%)

Perhaps I mixed something up then. In any case, tons of ppl died.
As a comparision: Present-day Germany barely has 80 million inhabitants in total.
Or at least it had last time they made a statistic, the population is sort of decreasing.

But the point still stands(even more so): It is utterly tasteless to laugh/drool/fap/etc over the icons of mass-muderes.
At LEAST spoilerboxes, please. Some might actually be SEEN with this stuff on their screens, even if they just wanted to scroll past it.

Though I am desensitised to this, I know this shit is disturbing to many people, that's why it angers me when Japanese artists do this, they have no idea what the fuck they are doing and what they are meddling with.

It may have been over 70 years since the war, but it still affects us to this day, especially the Germans.

Anyway, have some art.

What's funny about that image is that it's the standard body type for women in Western comics, and it's cartoonishly exaggerated for Japan. It's got me wondering how a Japanese artist would draw Asuka as Phoenix.

It looks like the reaction was more exaggerated than I thought, considering that Japan's "different sensibility" on this issue is largely known between anime fans.
Personally I think that the western reaction to Nazi iconography is an exaggerated one. Does anyone react like that toward the USA because of the American natives genocide? Does anyone react like that toward the former Ottoman Empire because of the Armenian genocide? Does anyone react like that toward the former European colonial powers and their massive killings perpetrated between the 16th and the 20th century? These States never distanced themselves from their atrocities (unlike post-war Germany) and in many cases they're still denying their responsibility (like Turkey, but French re-wrote her colonial history as well).
It's like we're putting all the "evil" of this World on the Nazis and after that we pretend that there was nothing worse than them and there'll never be something worse than them, as long as we remember their atrocities, but they aren't some kind of scapegoat, genocides always existed and probably they'll keep existing forever, the differentiation between the Nazi one and the others, this is really disturbing.

Hyper Shinchan, I was writing a text similar to yours, but I gave up, because I didn't want to start a fight, but now that you already wrote that... I agree with most things you said, and you even didn't mention the "brave" Japanese warriors in the Nanking Massacre, the Soviets(mostly Stalin)...

But, we gotta agree, the nazis were indeed one of the worse kinds that ever existed. Their methods were horrible, even worse than those of the monarchs during the Middle Ages. Not the only evil ones, but very bad nonetheless.
