Huh. Well, that teaches me!
Anyway, watched more SM Classic.
Episode 20 was a funny one.
Magical Midget Sakiko was adorable, I'll say that right off the bat. I must admit though, I really felt like I was watching a Hanna-Barbera cartoon at times. The animation was absolutely atrocious at times, and there was a lot of SD-moments/silly faces. I think Usagi spent more time in this episode with a face fault than with a normal face. Sakiko's father was a bit hard to take seriously, looking like a 60s Scooby-Doo villain. The costumed employees were hilarious though. "Thaaaank yooouuuu...Thaaat's oooone of our seeeeeelliiiiing pooooiiiints..."
Also, this somehow managed to simultaneously be a beach episode AND a "haunted house" episode.
VERDICT: Frighteningly daft.
Episode 21 was possibly the funniest to date, mainly because of how damned meta it was. For starters the "topic of the week" was anime, and the episode starts with Usagi watching the trailer for an upcoming Sailor V anime. She laments that she will never have an anime made about her, to which Luna replies that anyone who wanted to make an anime about Usagi would be nuts. Quite aside from the obvious joke that Usagi IS in an anime (the one we're watching right now in fact) it's even funnier when you remember that the Sailor V OVA was scrapped in exchange for the Sailor Moon anime. Luna hit the nail on the head though- many of the staff in Sailor Moon (especially Ikuhara) were completely nuts.
I wonder if Anno had a hand in this?
Anyway, the rest of the episode proceeds as you'd expect. This time it follows a pair of up and coming animators who are stressed and exhausted from trying to get the pilot episode of Sailor V finished. We also get to witness the hilarity that is the Director and his baby daughter (who constantly punctuates her father's babbling with a "babu, babu!". Most of the gags are related to just what a pain animation is, with Usagi and Rei squeeing and fangirling over the animators. Of note are Rei's pink dungarees, which are both ridiculous and adorable.
The animation is kinda off-the-wall. It's nowhere near as simplistic or dreadful as 20, but it's very silly and rather lively, with lots of exaggerated movement and oddly placed sakuga.
The only disappointing aspect of this episode was the battle- despite Nephrite claiming that they are some of his strongest Youma, Castor and Pollux are defeated when...they argue over who gets to kill the Senshi. I smell a lazy writer...
Aside from the crappy battle, this was a good episode.
VERDICT: Worth fangirling over.
EDIT:
Episode 22 was the "Princess D" episode (which means I've now seen his bit in all 3 versions- manga, anime and Crystal). It wasn't too bad- the animation was OK, and Usagi wasn't a total moron, so it's all good. I preferred the manga take on it though.
Usagi mistaking alcohol for juice never ceases to amuse me though. I hate to think what she'd be like completely smashed. Oh wait, that's just Misato.
VERDICT: Nothing funny to say.
Episode 23 was kinda sad. I really felt for poor Naru, being strung along by Nephrite. Love is a powerful thing after all.
The animation was pretty good this episode. There was a lot less QUALITY, and overall the art was much better than usual. Unfortunately I can't really judge this episode properly, as the sound wasn't working properly on my video.
VERDICT: Can't really judge.
Episode 24 was...
RIP Nephrite...
Also, poor, poor Naru. I just want to give her a hug. Her seiyuu's crying was just a bit too realistic- it really left me feeling uncomfortable.
Overall a fantastic episode- one of the best so far in fact. Also probably the first major tearjerker in the anime (aside from the doll episode). I would ive a more in depth analysis, but it doesn't need one. Tiis episode was perfect.
VERDICT: I cri evertim.
