There's an interview series about Space Dandy going on on ANN. To my surprise, the staff seems to be pretty international. Now I love Space Dandy even more than before.

[rant] And I'm sure, if some Otaku would get their heads out of their asses and would stop comparing it too Cowboy Bebop and judge it by its own merits, they would like it to. It is very well made entertainment. [/rantOFF]

The second one is even more interesting, as he goes into a lot of technical details and tells us why one particular scene in EoE is one of the greatest animated things ever. Additionally he is an Austrian, like me! Now everything seems possible. I mean, look at his Tumblr! He is an amazing talent. Glad to read, he works on the first episode of the second season!

Can't wait for SD to continue.

Huh, I didn't really like this one much.

Maybe because the humor didn't sit well with me, or maybe because most episode felt more soporific than staring at the blackboard. I dunno, I just didn't find much substance. It looked nice, sounded nice, but ehh...

That really is an incredible scene. Looking at it again, it's really amazing that he managed to make a nine-on-one fight look believable, and with the one coming a hair's breadth away from victory no less. People say the MPEs were lazy, or stupid (hell, I've said it), but if you watch carefully they weren't -- they were always engaging her, always trying to gang up on her, and she didn't let them. She spaced them out, broke ranks, made distance, everything you'd have to do in a fight like that. It takes a lot of talent to animate the effectively. It's no wonder this scene is so highly regarded in the industry.

It's good to know Bahi JD's taking inspiration from this scene. Too bad he's only involved in the first ep of Space Dandy, though; I'd like to see him get some more work.

I hate myself. But maybe I can learn to love myself. Maybe it's okay for me to be here! That's right! I'm me, nothing more, nothing less! I'm me. I want to be me! I want to be here! And it's okay for me to be here! -- Shinji Ikari, Neon Genesis Evangelion

People compare this with cowboy bebop? Honestly Champloo and bebop had a lot more in common then space Dandy and bebop. While there are similarities the two are very different anime.

Not so much comparing than unreasonable expectations. Space Dandy and Kill la Kill faced criticism as they were continuously put against the maker's previous works despite both doing their own thing.

I will be watching and not expecting much continuity. However if Dandy is such a key person as the Gogol Empire believes, I see an ending with him ruling the empire and buying up all the Boobies franchises with Honey on his personal staff.

Unless there's a Season 3.

I love the opening homage to Cowboy Bebop in the beginning of this trailer.

Hyped for this.
"....Bang." -Spike Spiegel (Cowboy Bebop)
"Shorty?!? Can a shorty do this?!?" -Edward Elric (FMA)
"I've had many lives, many faces. But there is one face I try to forget..." -The Doctor (Doctor Who)
"So say we all!" -Admiral Adama (Battlestar Galactica)
"The only impossible is impossibility!" -Phineas Flynn (Phineas and Ferb)
"Screw you guys, I'm going home!" -Eric Cartman (South Park)

- Masaaki Yuasa is not only directing, but also doing animation direction for ep 16.
- Ep 18 is solo key animated by Kiyotaka Oshiyama.
- Ep 23 is written by Keiko Nobumoto, featuring designs by Katsuhiro Otomo with
animation direction by Yoshimichi Kameda (source is not 100% sure about this).
- Ep 25 is solo key animated by Michio Mihara and it’s a low budget episode
with only 2800 drawings, because they used too much money on the previous episodes and the finale.
- Final episode is described as “full force of great animators going on rampage”

Well, now. That's an interesting choice in art style. (Not that I should be surprised)

Quite a reference fest (I mean damn, they even had a Michael Jackson Dandy!) but totally insane as usual.
