Guin Saga 01.
So I decided I might as well watch this since it was the at-long-last adaptation of the best-beloved sword and sorcery doorstoppers of the Nipponese and all that. The reason I'm actually going to be watching this though is because it's got without doubt the most hilariously over-the-top soundtrack I have ever heard. It's Uematsu, which already gives you an idea, but it's like Uematsu listened to Poledouris' score for Conan the Barbarian for a week straight and then decided "I am going to outdo that goddamn score, see if I don't." I'm not faulting this though, since the rest of the show is basically the exact same idea taken to a similarly insane extreme. Or, put another way: how many beloinclothed, leopard-headed barbarians seeking to resolve existential crises by random wandering and violence have you been thinking of, lately? (You don't need to answer this, the point is "Conan...but his head is a leopard" is just unoriginal enough that it cycles back around to originality)
Holy shit though the kids are already getting on my nerves. it's a good thing this show is mostly badass background paintings, ~*MAJESTIC*~ scoring, and Guin punching things so hard they explode, because every other character to date has been detracting from the simple purity of that formula. I hope this show doesn't turn out to be shit. Or...actually, you know what? I hope it does.
Nothing is so valuable that it need not be started afresh, nothing is so rich that it need not be enriched constantly.
