What's Asuka playing?

Is this the first time we see a game full-on? Is this her only game? That would be sad, but kind of explain the insane score.

I have a hunch it's not real, but is there anything it halfway resembles or is derivative of? Closest thing I can think of is Qix, but I'm far from a game expert.

If I remember correctly, It's a Wonderswan console, though I recall it being a Wonderswan in 2.0, I don't know if it was changed in the latter movies.

Learned the answer to your question today. The game is called Gunpey, named after Gunpei Yokoi, maker of the wonderswan, Metroid etc and sadly died in a car accident in 97 I think. Here is footage of the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPRMzG26Siw

Oh wow, I was actually familiar with the DS & PSP versions of Gunpey and knew it was named after the Game Boy creator, but did not connect it in my head to what was on Asuka's screen because of the graphical difference. Also didn't know Yokoi created the WonderSwan. Thanks!

Look at the level number she's up to when talking to Rei. It's level 999. The same number as the backdoor code for her Eva when injecting it with Angel blood.
