Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media
So, the light at the end of the tunnel turned out to be not one, not two, but three oncoming freight trains heading right for Shinji.
Seems about right.

lmao
While "Bye-Bye all of Evangelion" is kinda wonky, it is very faithful to the Japanese original. I suspect Dan Kanematsu was once again on translation-duty - this lack of feel for the English language is kind of his style.

Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media
The main railroad is the movie coming to us, the ones on the left are evil outside forces and detours that don't let the anime happen.
Shinji: "Sooner or later I'll be betrayed... And they'll leave me. Still... I want to meet them again, because I believe my feelings at that time were real."
Ryuko: "I'm gonna knock ya on your asses!"
-Asuka: THINK IN GERMAN!!! -Shinji: Öh... Baumkuchen...
Hayashida: "As game developers, our work is special. All of us here can put smiles on very many people's faces with our work."

Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media
Train aficionados have identified that as the Ube-Shinkawa Station. I wonder if that might mean Wille is based in or around Ube? That station's on the other end of Honshu, ~550 miles from where Shinji, Asuka and Rei are now. Surely they aren't gonna walk that far.
Someday I hope that we'll be reunited if that is what's destined to be. Perhaps we'll discover that elusive bible. And then we will finally be free!
Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media
He is. What other translator would Anno use but him?
Though I would prefer something like "The Last, Last One, Forever and Ever"

Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media
"Saraba, subete no Evangelion" could also, perhaps somewhat obviously, refer to the Evas themselves. Same as before, the series will end with the Evas gone, whether destroyed or no longer on Earth.
"Thrice Upon A Time" plays off the series' fairy time theming. 3+1 will also have the third Impact that we actually get to see play out onscreen.
The directors this time around (not supervising director, who is Anno) are Kazuya Tsurumaki and Katsuichi Nakayama. The latter name has worked on the movies before.
Supervising animation director (replacing Takeshi Honda from Q) is Atsushi Nishigori, another Eva veteran.

I'm very intrigued by Masayuki's absence from involvement on this film.
Other than Tsurumaki, he's the most senior director at Khara and has been under Anno's wing dating back to Gunbuster. Kinda odd that he would all of a sudden pull out now, when 3.0+1.0 will be the grand finale to the Evangelion series. I wonder if there was some falling out behind the scenes or if he has health issues, because he doesn't appear to be a jobbing director that would be busy with other projects.

Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media
Maybe Masayuki is the director of the mysterious 2022 project Anno hinted at in his last paper lantern for that festival? (Shrugs)
Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media
This seems like it could be the case. Masayuki's worked on Anno's productions for the majority of his career, so he might be Anno's ace in the hole to start preproduction work on whatever the 2022 project is while Tsurumaki & co. finish TUAT (that is going to be an unfortunate acronym, lol).
This could also be the reason for Takeshi Honda's absence and maybe Sadamoto's as well.
I also wonder when we'll get a trailer for that project.

Before this pandemic fucked everything up I kinda figured we'd get our first trailer for Shin Ultraman attached to Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time (after several years of not having a title I am going to enjoy typing out the whole damn thing for a few days) and then our first real look/trailer at 2022? would have been attached to Ultraman.
Now everything is up in the air.

I do like the subtitle, but I already dread the amount of people that will take it as "proof" for some hack sequel theories

1.0: Misato brings Shinji to Tokyo-III per usual. This sequence ends in failure in 2.0 with Eva-01's awakening, the destruction of Tokyo-III, Rei "dying" and Shinji peacing out for 14 years.
3.0: Shinji's arrival at Wunder and flight Neo-Nerv HQ mirror the events in 1.0, but turned on their head in a dark reprise where everything's all wrong. Once again ends in failure when Eva-13 upends everything and Kaworu "dies". Asuka's not letting him peace out again though.
3.0+1.0: Asuka drags Shinji back to the Wunder again, and...
Will he get it right this time?
So, the potential theme of the movie can be best summarized as 'Third times the charm'?

Forget it, Jake. It's Eva, people are going to have wack theories no matter what.
And as people treat stories less as self-expressions from artists and more as (ugh, i hate the word) "Content" theories are only going to get worse.
Already I'm seeing angry tinfoil hat conspiracies idiots are posting about online how the final film is being delayed NOT because of a pandemic that is endangering the lives of millions but because Anno has no idea what he's doing. That because 'Random Anime Fan 984902' wasn't a fan of 3.0 and the film didn't do exactly what they would have done' that Anno obviously has no idea where to take the story and is using the pandemic as an excuse to buy more time.
It couldn't possibly be that 3.0 was very much an intentional statement by Eva's original author and that he knew exactly where he wants to take the story and is okay if some people aren't into the drastically different journey as long as he gets to tell the story he wants. And it couldn't possibly be that the long delay between films was because he decided to take a few years off from Eva to recharge his batteries and make a little independent drama about fire breathing monsters.
Couldn't possibly be that. Random Anime Fan 984902 has spoken.

Honda IIRC is working on the Miyazaki movie (the really final one this time), and Sadamoto who knows in what kind of relationship is with khara right now.

The new Poster will definitly be my new Desktop Pic to replace the Teaser Poster with the corefied Paris Eifeltower.
"Thrice Upon A Time". It was questionable all along if FINAL will get a title and whether it follows the same pattern as the previous films. Now there is no doubt that FINAL has one.

And the text indicates that it ends for real SPOILER: Show
I carry out things right to the end. No. Matter. What.

But in the Japanese version the text obscures him almost completely, which seems surprising.

Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media
Well, Sadamoto's credit on the movies was primarily character design - so assuming there won't be any huge new inclusions to the cast, his service maybe simply weren't necessary.
Also, there was this controversy with him disparaging an art exhibition of the excluded Korean minority in Japan. He was saying the art was shit, and just because they had to endure social holocaust for decades doesn't make the exhibition any better - the SJW-fraction of ANN begged to differ, and used their most powerful weapon in moral judgement of artwork, they decided to cancel him. I don't know how much of a concern this was in Japan, though.
Either way, lots of core cast missing, I'm curious as to how that will reflect on the final product. Might be an undiluted Anno experience.
Shit, I recently learnt that Masayuki's god tier editing is an integral part of what made me enjoy certain parts of Evangelion.
There is no wrong way to enjoy art, and you're gonna save yourself a lot of nerves, if you can accept that there's lots of people with very different views than you have.
Also, first Shin Eva was halted by Depression, now a Virus. I guess you could say, that movie is plagued, lmao.
I think this title is really interesting,
-as it's making this movie stand apart from the others by breaking the naming convention, which directly feeds back into the weird numbering of "3.0+1.0"
-also the other three movies literally happened "Once Upon A Time" as it's been 13, 11 and 8 years respectively - but instead of of once it's thrice, because three movies.
I really enjoy meta-shit like that, But I really like Reichu's in-universe explanations/predictions as well!
Reichu wrote:"Saraba, subete no Evangelion" could also, perhaps somewhat obviously, refer to the Evas themselves. Same as before, the series will end with the Evas gone, whether destroyed or no longer on Earth.

I was really curious if anybody could find out, if there is any relation to said novel, or if it's incidental. Thrice upon a time's Japanese title is the completely 未来からのホットライン (Hotline from the Future).
Thrice might also feed back to Third as in Third Child?
What did they call it? Missing the forest for the trees? Nah, there's another one I can't think of in the moment. It's when you're oblivious to being guilty of the same stuff you're projecting others might be doing.

While "Bye-bye all of Evangelion" seems a little bit childlike and kinda wonky, I take a title full of personality any day over another tired, boring Hollywood tagline.
He's obscured by the Kanji 全 (zen) of the word 全て (subete) which means "all, whole, complete"... What I'm trying to say is that it basically points to Shinji being the center of all of this movie, not surprising, but a neat little touch, imo.
