I've already listened to it like 10 times because it's so damn beautiful and this only makes it better. I definitely think it's being sung to Shinji. By who? I'm not sure, but it's being sung to Shinji, or at least about Shinji.

THIS is the translation?
Okay, any lack of bawl-factor/underwhelmed-ness is now compensated for.

Damn tragic/poignant.

My yet uneducated guess would be that this is Shinji mourning Kaworu, commenting on how Kaworu alweays saw the beauty in things and how he died to protect humanity, indeed with Shinji taking a different Conclusion (valueing his sacrifice instead of going all mopey and forsaking the world he died to protect) from it, like I predicted.

Then again, "the city you protected" echoes a certain line from episode 2. Does something really, really horrible, awfully permanent thing happen to Shinji in Q?
(Please don't actually answer this)

Shinji mourning Rei is also an option, but if poor Shinji is in fact the victim, it's closer to how Misato would say things than it is to Mari, Rei or Asuka.

I did not like it much at first. However, I find that it has grown on me a great deal since this morning, once I translated it. My impression is that it is about Shinji, it makes sense in my mind. However, I expect that its presence in the end credits cannot signal the end of a cheerful film, but most of us shall have to wait and see.

At first I wasn't very keen of the song... But now I love it, i think it fits the mood of the last scene of the movie as I picture it perfectly.
The song itself isn't that special but the producing makes it really good. I really like it.
Yet I should have never read the translation, really bad, generic J-Pop lyrics; nothing like Beautiful boy. I cannot really see how the lyrics talk to or about Shinji.

I find just the song and the official video...tough going (damn onions). Im sure I will be able to cope with watching 3.0 based on what I know to occur and having that kick in.

I've been a bit unexpectedly listening a lot to this song today. It really pins down the mood of film very well, I think

I actually think the song is centered on the relationship between Shinji and Kaworu which would make more sense considering that it seems that Kaworu is the central character in this movie. Also the movie's previews and trailers have ben heavy on Shinji/kaworu's interactions.

Unfortunately, the video was removed off of hikki's channel, and now we can only watch the short version.

When the credits came up and the song started, I was initially underwhelmed. I was expecting another remix of Beautiful World actually.

But when she got to the English line "Everybody finds love....in the end" I thought.....wow, I sure hope that's true.

But it isn't until about halfway when the reverbed drum starts it's slow beat that I was like....."Yeah. I dig this song. It's going on my mp3 player."

It really does. Can't remember a song I've heard in recent history, that was so "mehh~" at first and became so good after consecutive listens.

Paul Carter (the composer and a friend of Utada's) plays a piano version of Sakura Nagashi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQPdzHVakyM

Might be spoilers in the comments since it's youtube we're talking about.

Sakura Nagashi DVD along with a bonus poster of Sadamoto's album artwork. (I thought it was Utada herself, wasn't completely sure.)

The song is up on Japanese iTunes. Doesn't seem to be on U.S. iTunes yet.

Also, interesting tidbits:

Methinks it's from the point of view of Yui to Gendo, referring to Shinji as a baby before or as she did the activation test.
