Is Mari British or American?

Postby Rahaquiel-2D1S » Sat Nov 21, 2009 1:57 pm

I mean, I heard the Illustrious was a British battleship, so she'd be British if we're following the ship-naming theme. But I've heard some people say she's American. Personally, I'm inclined to believe she's British.

SPOILER: Show
Oh, and doesn't Mari sound similar to Mary? As in, Virgin Mary? Real subtle, Anno. That's like giving Shinji a new mecha with an anchor on it. Oh, wait.
Haunted dolls? If Rozen Maiden ever taught us anything it would be to look under it's dress.

I get the feeling that Mari is European, but not British. Listening to the way she talked on her cell phone reminded me of the way someone from Europe would talk. Somehow it just didn't feel like someone speaking english with a Japanese accent to me.

English speaking and European. Well, she could be a bog-rat, I guess. Otherwise, do the math.

She's British.
SPOILER: Show
As to her first name... well there's a line in the opening song with the word "Maria", I believe, but who knows if it'll fit with anything in the new films.

Going by this interview with Sadamoto, the intention was to amke her look British.

As for her first name, it's more like Mary of Bethany.Or Mary Sue. But who's Jesus, then?
