Having cores and "Angel face" imagery isn't enough? "Core in mouth" is too gimmicky (I like that word... "gimmick") to be employed again without people going, " They did this back in Movie #1..."

EDIT: In that image of Shamshel, his core is more or less where you'd expect his mouth to be, maybe a little lower...I wouldn't be surprised if we see the Shammy(and Rami and Gags) we know and love, nuts to fan descriptions. :)

Yeah but remember that the themes between angels were not the same between each one (excpet the S2 engine), did shamshell have any features similar to another angel beyond the s2? Perhaps the "eyes" on shamshell will also have teardrops this time around.

Anno may have wanted to have a bunch of apparant themes between the angels to make us ask "how different are they, really?". Who knows.

One of the main Webuild posters has a list of terms and things relevant to Operation Yashima. Among them, "Fourth Angel" -- ergo, Ramiel.

This either meant that Shamshel wasn't going to appear, or Lilith got bumped out of second. Now we know which one.

The S2 is never seen, period. (Aside from maybe bloody chunks of one.)

It's there, nevertheless. I don't know whether or not Core==S2, but Ramiel has a core, and the whole purpose of aiming that positron rifle so precisely was to shoot it straight through the core, nothing else would guarantee a kill.

Notice that a whole lot of angel imagery is limited to the humanoid angels. Even without explicit angel imagery, an angel can reveal a distinct human personality of its own. Ramiel gives the impression of someone who is methodical, precise, but who absolutely hates to be hurt by others, and would prefer getting rid of threats before they can cause any harm.

Heh, character changes... in my opinion they should start out the same, but evolve differently than they did in the original.

And as for Rei smiling, don't forget that she already smiled after the original Operation Yashima, but only because she was told to.

Very possible actually, there was no Lilith in the outline in Newtype for the original series.
