I don't think Rei "betrayed" him. You could say she found "destiny" persay, because she finally realized who she really was(lilth) and was doing the right thing by not letting Gendo have any part in 3I. Rather leave it up to Shinji.

Okay, but was Shinji the one to make his transition so...disturbing?

...or was it Yui's way of telling Gendo, "I'm disappointed in you, husband"?

I would have to say both, but then again it was Eva01 that ate him... meaning it could have been Yui. Keep in mind that Shinji also hated his father, and Yui responded this way.

He probably knew he was going to get betrayed at one point, he's betrayed so many, he wasn't just going to get away with it.

Just on this, some offtopic wild conjecturing. I think it's likely that they cracked open the plug and swallowed Asuka raw.

Asuka's corpse would be such a tiny, grisly tidbit, it wouldn't even be worth the harpies' consideration, really. The entry plug is just another part to cast aside.

I don't see why they'd want to eat Asuka provided she was already speared to death (having most likely fainted after getting her arm severed in half) and later on Tanged (though by the time she was Tanged going along with the idea that Shinji was Tanged first the Harpies where doing Lilith's bidding, whatever the hell that was).

The only problem on 'Retribution' is that it isn't grammatically correct in this circumstance. 'Retribution' is on behalf of the aggrieved party. ‘My retribution’ would have to be done to someone who had wronged him. So it's a translation issue too.

There's no actual "my" in there, but I'm not sure how to handle the sono.

There is however a 'my' in :
EoE B_B's Translation wrote:
So, This is my retribution. Forgive me... Shinji.

So like I meant to Edit: my previous post 'a grammar and translation issue.'

Japanese is one of those languages where you don't ALWAYS need to say "I/My/etc" to get the point across when it's clear the speaker's you. Which explains other examples such as koroshiteyaru (Kill you) and kimochi warui (Feel bad). ...Okay, I think I worded that poorly, but oh well. >_<

Good luck with The Case of Soryu Asuka Langely.

Was mostly a cure for boredom/wanting to see it could be done, but people seem to like it (NOTE: The better version of this is on page 2): http://evageeks.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2133&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

Anyway, seems like it WAS Yui as Eva instead of Shinji. In terms of her motivates, Reichu (paraphrased) said it best: "There's a Method to Yui's Madness."

Not really sure, but I see where you're coming from.

Gendo knew he was doing something wrong note what Seele said "Are you going to betray us Gendo Ikari..."

I'm sure they had probably planned this together ever since the beginning you never know.

I can't really get into detail much as I have to go to school... but I'll try to get back to you when I come back. I have an idea, but I just can't quite put it in words, I only have it in thoughts at the moment. :P

"Split" means that one topic is divided into two.

I would tell you what "merge" meant if phpbb wasn't a piece of shit and didn't require you to install a mod for this basic function.

I just watched EoE again, and found further support for the theory that Yui took Gendo with her.
When the transition guide reith is visiting Unit-2 floating in space near the end, Unit-2's eyes have become shiny Gendo glasses!
So, I believe the transition guide was dropping off Gendo's soul while picking up Shinjis for the trip down to Earth.

EoE wrote:Even after 5 billion years, when the Earth, the Moon, and even the Sun have disappeared... It will still exist as that one person still lives. It will be very lonely, but as long as that one person still lives... It will be the eternal proof that humankind has existed.

You seem to have forgotten this little bit which negates your theory...

Do souls in a Guf count as "people" who would negate a lot of necessary loneliness?
